U 12 “B East Cork Championship Final
Cobh 2-07 Inch Rovers 3-12
Sunday saw the conclusion of the U 12 East Cork competitions with the meeting of Cobh and Inch Rovers in the”B” Championship final in Cobh. This was a really good game with both sides playing some lovely football but the experience of Inch Rovers saw them pull away in the last few minutes winning on a score line 3-12 to 2 -07. Congratulations Inch and very well done to Cobh Ladies Football club who have really come of age in 2016 and will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.
Monday and there were two minor finals down for decision
East Cork Minor “C” Championship Final
Erin’s Own 5-09 Watergrasshill 6-07
Firstly Watergrasshill played Erin’s Own in the East Cork Minor “C” championship final in Caherlag at 12 O Clock and what a game this turned out to be. Goals galore was the order of the day with the Hill starting the better only to be pegged back by the home side that raced into a commanding lead half way through the first half. Watergrasshill played them selves back into the game with two goals close to the half time whistle but still trailed by two goals at the break 5-05 to 4-02.
The girls from Watergrasshill again opened the scoring in the second period with another well taken goal to narrow the gap but Erins Own battled hard and managed to stay in front until the last 10 minutes when the Hill scored a succession of points and another goal to take the lead. End to end exciting football just does not describe this great encounter with both sides running them selves into the ground but it was to be the girls from Watergrasshill who took the day by a single point finishing on a score line 6-07 to 5 -09.Exactly how much this victory meant to the Hill was plain to be seen afterwards with players mentors and supporters dancing with joy. Well done to both teams foe a super Minor final
East Cork Minor “B” Championship Final
Aghada 3-12 Bride Rovers 4-04
Bride Rovers travelled to Rostellan later in the afternoon to take on Aghada in the East Cork Minor “B” championship final.
Aghada opened the scoring in the opening minutes with a cracker of a goal from sharp shooter Lauran Linehan only to be pegged back by Bride Rovers star Katie Quirke and they went in front for a short period before Linehan again hit the net with the second of her three goals. It was nip and tuck for most of the half with both sides playing some lovely football but it was Linehan who hit the net again after some lovely team work just before the break to leave the sea side girls leading 3-05 to 2-02 at half time
Aghada extended their lead with four unanswered points before Bride Rovers again hit the back of the net to narrow the gap. The Rovers piled on the pressure but the Aghada backs stood firm and managed to supply enough ball to the forwards to put daylight between the sides. The Rovers never gave up and were rewarded with a goal and a point to narrow the gap late on but it was the girls from the sea side club who finished victorious on a score line 3-12 to 4-04
Aghada have a busy schedule over the next few weeks with the U 16 “A” County final fixed for Sunday next and the Minor “B” County final down for decision the following Sunday.
