Aghada Minor Ladies Win East Cork Championship “B” Title
By Aghada Ladies’ Football Pro
Aghada 3 12 Bride Rovers 4-04
Aghada and Bride Rovers served up a very good game of Ladies Football on Monday afternoon last in Rostellan in the final of the Minor “B” East Cork League / Championship with the seaside girls securing the title. Aghada had the first score of the game after just a minute’s play with a well taken goal from the boot of Lauren Linehan. This was quickly cancelled out by Bride Rovers when they hit one, one of their own. Sarah Leahy drew the game level again after eight minutes before Lauren Linehan hit her second goal and pushed the seaside girls back into the lead. Lauren Mc Allister put four points between the teams before being reeled back in again by Bride Rovers who levelled the match up again after eighteen minutes of play. Nessa Fitzpatrick and Ciara Mc Grath kicked two great points for the seaside girls before Lauren Linehan struck for her third goal to give the seaside girls a five point cushion at the short whistle, Aghada 3-4 Bride Rovers 2-2. The seaside girls were quick out of the blocks on the resumption and had points from the boots of Christine Moran (Two), Sorcha Phelan, Sarah Leahy and Nessa Fitzpatrick (One Each) to push the seaside girls lead out to ten points. Bride Rovers kept plugging away and got a goal of their own to cut the lead to seven points after forty four minutes. Nessa and Lauren Mc Allister replied with points of their own to push the seaside girls nine clear going down the home straight. Bride Rovers struck for their fourth goal on the fifty fourth minute quickly followed by a point and the game was back in the melting pot. Mc Allister pushed the seaside girls six clear again. Bride Rovers piled the pressure on the Aghada defence, looking to rescue the game but in fairness to the seaside girls there was no way through and they held out for the win on a scorline of Aghada 3-12 Bride Rovers 4-4. This was a great all round team performance so well done girls and these girls still have the County Final to play against Carrigaline provisionally fixed for the 13th of November. Time and Venue TBC. After the game the cup was presented to Sorcha Phelan by Barry Moran PRO East Cork Ladies Football Board. Sorcha thanked Conor Counihan for looking after the team, the referee for his handling of the game and Bride Rovers.
