East Cork u-8 blitz
Glanmire had the privilege of holding the east cork u8 blitz last Saturday in the pike, complements must go to the organising committee for running what was a well organised and professionaly event. Great credit due to the coaches and committee (or the “pitch fairies” as they are known) for setting up the pitchs at 8am the morning of the blitz, while we were all still snoozing in our beds. Thank you to all the parents who baked cakes, made sandwiches and maned the tea station for the 16 teams from 11 visiting clubs today. Thanks to all our minor girls who were referees for the day. Thanks to the cork senior team for handing out all the medals and standing for the many many photos with our girls. Thank you to Glanmire mens club for the use of the whole pitch and the facilities on the day and lastly to all the girls from our u7 and u8 teams who played 8 games between them. They are a great credit to the club and their parents, a pleasure to have. Our youngest organisers Erin Kelleher and Roisin Walsh were on hand all day to ensure the event ran smoothly. We had a great day and a great turn out, we always look forward to running big events, the club as a whole are fantastic to support and do everything they can to help out, we hope all the clubs had a great day, Well done to everyone.

U12B v Cloyne 2 October 2016
The U12B team played their final match of the season this year with a strongly contested battle last week in the East Cork Championship.
On a fine Sunday morning in Cloyne, both teams battled hard but Cloyne would eventually come out as winners. There were lots of fine performances in the team, Ceoli Long played well up front and Abbie Marah caught some fine ball, Sinead O’Donnell played well in goal and Anna Sreenan and Shauna Forde defended bravely. Well done to Coyne on the win and we wish them best of luck in the final
Well done to all the players and coaches. This was a development year and the players have come on very strongly and will challenge next year in the league.

U14B V Bride Rovers – 26 September 2016

The u14B lost their semi-final v Bride Rovers last week on a Monday night in Rathcormac. These teams met at the start of the year in the final of the league, and Glanmire were hoping to avenge their loss. However, having lost a few players to the Glanmire A team, this would test the resources of the group and Bride Rovers would once again prevail.
Thanks to all the players and coaches involved, and the best of luck to Bride Rovers in the final.

Minor

Glanmire minors competed in the County”A” minor competition for the first time in their history last Sunday when they travelled to Douglas. The game was played at a hectic pace throughout with Douglas starting brightly scoring 2 points, Glanmire replied with our number 11 Kate Hannon scoring 2 for the visitors, the teams then traded scores before Douglas hit a purple patch to take a 3 point lead, Glanmire responded to level it at the break with excellent scores from Ellie Crotty, Sandra Dinan and Sarah O Brien. Douglas again took the lead from the throw in but this only kick started Glanmire who notched up the next 2-3 without reply, the goals coming from Niamh McAllen. Glanmire were 8 up with 15 minutes remaining, Douglas clawed 2 points back to leave 6 points in it , up stepped keeper Ava Carey next to make 2 brilliant 1 on1 saves to break the Douglas resolve. Glanmire scored another point followed by 2 more from Douglas but with time running out Glanmire were never in danger and with brilliant defensive play especially Ruth McCarthy and Annalise Murphy who were outstanding all afternoon. We now await the winners of Fermoy and Dromtariffe in the semi final.
