Aghada Ladies Football Notes
Juniors Reach County Final…
The Juniors have made the County Junior B Final on Saturday next in CIT at 3pm after a great all round team performance on Sunday last in Ballincollig where they were comfortable winners over Gabriel Rangers. The seaside girls were very quick to settle into this game and took the game to Gabriel from the off. The game wasn’t a minute old when Emma Famer had the ball in the back of the Gabriel’s net. From the resultant kick out Emma put the ball back over the Gabriel’s bar before Hannah Looney struck for Aghada’s second goal. This was quickly followed by another from Lauren Mc Allister after some tremendous work out the field from Christine Moran, Sarah Leahy and Sarah Walsh. Emma kicked two more points followed by another from the boot of Moiré Mc Govern, before Lauren got her second and Aghada’s fourth goal. Again Emma was to the fore with a point before putting the ball into the Gabriel’s net for her second and Aghada’s fifth goal. At this stage it was all Aghada and Gabriel’s were struggling to break down the seaside girls defence where the Phelan’s sisters, Roisin and Sorcha, Laura Burchill, Karen O’Connell, Sophie Long and Cassie Tynan were keeping a tight rein on the Gabriel’s forwards. Emma kicked three more points sandwiched between two from the boot of Hannah to leave the halftime score Aghada 5-9 Gabriel Rangers 0-1. There were three changes to the Aghada team at halftime where the management had the cushion of making these changes to see what options they had for down the line. Amanda Bennett, Nessa Fitzpatrick and Siobhan Mc Carthy came in for Sarah Walsh, Lauren Mc Allister and Laura Burchill. The seaside girl’s started the second half the way they finished the first with two more goal’s and a point from Emma. To be fair to Gabriel’s they didn’t throw in the towel and kept plugging away, if they had been a bit more accurate in their shooting they made have had a few more scores. They had one or two goal opportunities but Bridget Wall wasn’t found wanting and pulled off some fine saves. Megan Sweeney and Ciara Counihan were introduced for Sarah Leahy and Christine Moran. Hannah was to get Aghada’s eighth goal after good work out the field from Sinead O’Driscoll. Emma kicked another point, their were two each from the boot of Amanda and Hannah before Emma closed out proceedings with another well taken goal. This was a great all round team performance and it’s great to see the older girls and younger girls gelling together as a team. The final score read Aghada 9-14 Gabriel Rangers 1-2. Aghada now go on and meet Doheny’s in the County Final next Saturday at 3pm in CIT. This game will precede the Senior Final between St Val’s and Mourneabbey
. We would hope that as many people as possible can make the journey to CIT to support the girls in the Final. Panel: B. Wall, L. Burchill, R. Phelan, K.O’Connell (Captain), S. Long, C. Tynan, S. The final score read Aghada 1-10 Fermoy 3-5. We would like to wish Fermoy the very best of luck in the Final.
