Cork 2-15 Donegal 2-14
Cork ladies’ football senior team retained their Lidl national league title for the 5th year in a row and nine seasons out of the last ten with a one point victory over Donegal in a game played in Parnell Park on Sunday afternoon last,
This was a superb game of fast free open football and a tremendous advertisement for the ladies game. Cork ace and player of the match Orla Finn opened the scoring with a great goal in the opening 20 seconds and she would go on to score ten points nine from frees.
Despite conceding this goal the Northern side fought back to take to lead but were dealt another blow when Emer Scally goaled in the 23rd minute to see the Lee side Ladies lead at the interval 2-08 to 1-09.
The second half saw more of the same with both sides forging ahead only to be pulled back by the opposition. In fact the sides were level on six concisions and it was all in the melting pot right until the end when Finn landed two lovely points to see them over the line again. Cork will now prepare for the Munster and All Ireland series which starts in a few weeks time.
Well done to all concerned but a special congrats to all the East Cork Ladies R Phelan (Aghada), A Hutchings & S Moore (Fermoy), J O Shea & A Walsh (Inch Rovers) O Farmer (Midleton) Grace Kearney (Bride Rovers)
