U14 Match Report

U14 East Cork League
Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Cobh
On Saturday the 9th of April our U14 girls were in action against Cobh in Lisgoold. Cobh were on top early on in the game and despite a spirited comeback from Lisgoold/Leamlara in the last 10mins of first half Cobh would lead 1-5 to 0-3 at half time. Lisgoold growing in confidence in the second half took the game to Cobh. It was end to end football with spectators playing their part in cheering on this great team. Every time Cobh came forward the backs would swarm in and block out the threat by all means necessary. A penalty gave us the opportunity to win the game. Although the initial attempt missed there was no mistake with the rebound that rattled the back of the net. This game felt more like a final than a league game. Both teams played their part in this epic contest. At the final whistle players from both sides surrounded the referee to see who had edged it. A scream with up from the girls in Blue/Gold. Lisgoold had won it!!! Lisgoold/Leamlara 3-4 to 1-8.

U10 Match Reports.

U10 East Cork League Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Youghal
Lisgoold 0-1 Youghal 1-5

Our under 10 girls took to the pitch for their first match of the season on Wednesday last.
For our first outing of the year we had a clear goal of focusing on the basics for the first game and ensuring that we kept our defence solid and keep the ball moving at all times.

This game was also the first Under 10 outing with a lot of our team making their debuts in the U10 age-group.

All in all, we performed incredibly well on the night with a close fought game pivoting on two opportunities that did not go our way. The cross bar was rattled twice to deny us what would have been a lot closer score line and who knows what way the game would have swung.

In the end, Amy Fahy stood up and pointed our only point of the night, but the score line for this game does not reflect the effort and skill and attitude that the girls displayed in this dogged affair.

The positives for the girls to focus on are:
1. Attitude + Spirit: We played the game at 100% from Start to Finish despite the score line.
2. Defence: We never backed down and defended like tigers from the Forwards to the Backs
3. Team: We got stuck in and helped each other out at all times.
