East Cork Ladies Football Notes

Aghada Ladies Take Junior “A” Title

The final of the East Cork Ladies Football Junior “A” championship was played in Watergrasshill on Sunday and it brought together two of the oldest Ladies Football clubs in the division.
Watergrasshill and Aghada
The Hill have had a good year winning the U 16 D and Minor C titles recently and are doing some wonderful work at underage and what a dream year Aghada have had winning five county titles and numerous East Cork titles

The game had to be transferred to Watergrasshill as the original venue was closed but
conditions in Watergrasshill were ideal and while it was extremely cold for the spectators the players did not get time to feel the chill.
Aghada were first out of the blocks whit a goal and a point from Cork ace Emma Farmer in the opening two minutes but Michelle Sheehan and Diana Kelleher brought the sides level with a goal and a point for the (Hill) and Clare Cronin gave them the lead with a great point before Amanda Bennett goaled for Aghada and Hannah Looney pointed from a difficult angle. The Watergrasshill ladies then hit a purple patch playing some strong determined good football and Kelleher netted again and points from Cronin Arleen Fouhy Katie Hegarty and Marie O’ Neill pushed them three points clear at the interval 2-06 to 2-03.
Watergrasshill further extended their lead in the second half getting the opening score but Aghada responded with two points from Emma Farmer and a super goal from Looney put them well on their way. Aghada backs now started to get on top and some lovely team play allowed Farmer and Looney to combine well to score two further goals to put them well in the driving seat. Fair play to the Watergrasshill ladies as they never gave up scoring two further points from Clare Cronin and Elaine Carey but Aghada were not going to be denied and further points from Christine Moran, Emma Farmer and Hannah Looney saw them take the junior “A” East Cork title for the first time in their history on a score line 5 09 to 2 09 Phillip Harrington secretary of the East Cork Ladies football board was on hand to present Karen O’Connell Aghada captain with the East Cork trophy.
