Glanmire ladies 13 a side team were crowned County Champions on Sunday last when they overcame Inch on a scoreline of 3-12 to 2-3. Looking at the result , it is obvious that our defence were excellent well marshalled by Ava Carey in goal and Ellen Baker our 15 year old full back who had the pleasure of marking the legendary Mary O Connor for the hour. Both defences had the upper hand in the first half but a fisted goal from Kayla O Connor had a bit of light between the sides at the short whistle, 1-6 to 0-1. Inch started the second half brightly scoring a quick point when they might have had a goal but Glanmire responded with a few points and another fisted goal from Kayla to put the game out of the Killeagh sides reach. Inch scored 2 late goals but a third 3 pointer from Avril Kearney finished out the game. Special mention to Abbie O Mahony who made an excellent return after being out with an injury for 3 months and Shauna Murphy her midfield partner who was excellent throughout. Our captain Claire Murphy accepted the cup from Eamonn O Connor on behalf of the team and after a very short speech, the girls headed to Sars for well deserved refreshments . The highlight of the night was our number 1 supporter Matthew O Brien taking the stage where he blasted out the 12” version of his favourite song.

Good Luck to our minor girls in the County minor semi final v Fermoy on Saturday next
