Super Weekend of Ladies ‘Football in East Cork
Well done to all the teams that contested East Cork championship finals last weekend Special congratulations to all the winners but really Ladies ‘Football was the winner
U 14 “A” Final Aghada 2-07 Inch Rovers 2-05
Killeagh was the venue for the U 14 “A” Final between Inch Rovers and Aghada . This was a cracking game of football that had everything one could want. Inch led by a point at half time but a strong performance by Aghada saw them come through in the latter stages of the game to lift the trophy for the third year in a row. Well done and thanks to all in Inch Rovers who put on a magnificent spread for both teams and supporters after the game a wonderful sporting way to end the year.
U 14 “B” Final Rockbán 3-08 Fermoy 1-09
Rockbán continued their good run at U 14 level when they defeated Fermoy in the East Cork Championship U 14 “B” final on Saturday last. Conditions were windy and a solid second half performance saw the Rockbán girls pull away in the end to win on a score line Rockbán 3-08 to Fermoy 1-09
U 14 “C” Final Cobh v Watergrasshill
Cobh made history on Sunday afternoon when they took their first underage ladies football East Cork championship title when they defeated Watergrasshill in the U 14 “C” final. Another great game with both sides giving their all and the Cobh girls winning with just a few points to spare
U 14 “D” Final Lisgoold 9-09 Cloyne 3-03
Lisgoold finished off their year with a good victory over Cloyne in the U 14 “D” East Cork championship final played in Cloyne on Sunday. The strong wind made it difficult for both sides. Playing with the aid of the wind in the first period Lisgoold raced into an early lead and try as the Cloyne girls might they found it very hard to work the ball up the field. After the break the Cloyne girls found their feet and took the game to the opposition scoring some lovely points and goals but it was the strength and depth of Lisgoold that saw them through to take the title final score Lisgoold 9-09 Cloyne 3-03
U 12 “A” Final Youghal 1-07 Fermoy 1-03
The East Cork Final of the U 12 “A” Championship brought together Youghal and Fermoy who were the best two U 12 teams in Cork county winning the “A” & “B” County Championships. In fact this year East Cork won all the U 12 county championships a great achievement with Aghada and Bride Rovers winning the “C” & ”D” championships.
Saturday was a lovely day and some more great football End to end stuff with Youghal coming out on top after a close contest 1-07 to 1-03
U 12 “C” Final Carrigtwohill 4-03 Erin’s Own 1-05
Carrigtwohill U 12 girls had a good win over near neighbours Erin’s Own on Sunday last
Playing a nice blend of fast free flowing football the Carrig girls adapted to the windy conditions slightly better. Both side played some lovely football and Erin’s own never gave up but it was Carrig that carried the day on a 4-03 to 1-05 score line.
U 12 D Final Delaney’ s v Cloyne
The U 12 “D” East Cork Final was played on Saturday last between Delaney’s and Cloyne. Well done to both teams who put on a great performance the Sides were level at half time but the experience of the Cloyne girls told in the second period with them pulling away to win by a comfortably margin.
