U12B v St Nicks – 18 September 2016
Glanmire u12Bs prolonged their season today in a thrilling match in the Glen v St Nicks last Sunday. Although it looked like the rain would continue, the rain held off for the whole match and both St Nicks and Glanmire put on a fine display of ladies football. It seemed like it could be Glanmire’s day when our captain Caila Rose Cowhie won the toss.
From the off, Glanmire were up for the game and our full backs Sophie Nolan, Liadin Shepherd, and Anna Cronin defended bravely. Emily McCarthy Vaughan kept a clean sheet for the day and her kick outs were key, finding a Glanmire girl on most of her kick outs. Emma Dennehy, Ciara Rice and Isabelle Brennan held the half back line well and won some great ball. In the midfield, Abigail Thornhill, and Laura O’Brien had a tough battle against a strong St Nicks midfield but held their own bravely.
In the half forward line, Lauren Kelleher, Orla Kiely and Isabelle Kearney ensured a supply of ball went in to the full forward line and chipped in for some fine scores. Amy O’Sullivan, Tara Twomey and Caila Rose Cowhie worked tirelessly on the front line. Isabelle Foong, Rebecca Kelleher, EmmaLyn McCarthy, and Sarah Nyhan performed admirably when called upon, as did Jessica Murphy who kicked over a lovely point. Thanks to all the other girls who turned out, Ellie Twomey, Abbie Marah and Sinead O’Donnell
Glanmire held out to win the game by 1-5 to 0-5 and advance to the semi Fnal of the 12D East Cork Championship
Special thanks to St Nicks for hosting the game and hard luck it was not to be their day.
