Cork Minor Ladies into All Ireland Final
Cork 3-14 Galway 3-12

Cork minor ladies are into the All Ireland Minor Ladies’ Football Final with a hard fought victory over a very strong Galway side at a beautiful sunny Nenagh venue on Saturday last. This was always going to be a close contest but nobody could have expected how close with the lead changing time after time and only a kick of a ball between the sides at the final whistle.
Galway playing against the breeze opened well and led twice in the opening five minutes despite Cork putting them under all sorts of pressure. A great goal by Grace Culloty in the eleventh minute was cancelled out almost immediately as Galway went down the field scoring a cracker of their own They followed this with another mid way through the half and were putting the Cork defence under severe pressure. The Cork management re jigged their back line and this tightened things up. Cork hit the front when Cork captain Laura Cleary cut in from the wing to score a goal in the 25th minute and it looked as if the sides would be level at the break until Galway scored a goal and a point just on the stroke of half time to lead 3-07 to Corks 2-06
The second half was outstanding with both sides playing some wonderful end to end football and the lead changing every few minutes. Culloty scored Corks third goal in the 51st minute and the Lee side ladies grew in confidence and despite the Connaught champions putting the Cork backs under tremendous pressure they stood firm and kept the Galway forwards at bay but it still took the save of the year from the Cork keeper Mairead O’ Sullivan in the dying seconds when she blocked a point blank shot to see Cork through to the All Ireland Final on August 1st where they will meet favourites Dublin after they defeated Armagh in the other semi final 4-21 to 1-09
Well done to both sides for an outstanding and very entertaining game of football.
