Fermoy Cubs v Erin’s Own

Fermoy faced another difficult opponent at home on Saturday 9th March.  Erin’s Own looked strong and organised, but initially struggled to contain Fermoy’s speed.  However, both teams had to contend with a muddy, waterlogged pitch which killed any bounce and slowed down play as the game wore on.

Erin’s Own were the first to adapt to conditions, and grabbed three goals and a point before Fermoy could re-organise.  A well-taken point from Grace Rothwell came after a burst of sustained pressure from Fermoy.  Erin’s Own came back with another point, but solid Fermoy defending prevented any further points before the break.

Half-time:  Fermoy 0-1, Erin’s Own 3-2.

Fermoy came out fighting in the second half and Caoimhe Gowen immediately grabbed a point.  A poor kick out gave Fermoy a second chance and another point followed.  However, as the pitch conditions worsened, Fermoy’s fast-moving game suffered.  Erin’s Own took advantage and cranked up the pressure, and after finding holes in the Fermoy defence, went on to score several more goals.  In the end, the defeat was an unfair reflection of the effort Fermoy put into the game, particularly in midfield.
