RE: John West Féile na nGael / Féile Peil na nÓg 2021
A chara,
As you will be aware, the 2021 John West Féile Competitions cannot be run on the same scale as in previous years. As a result of Covid, the National Competition 2021 will remain inside each County.
We are encouraging all counties to run internal one-day Féile County Competitions on the following dates:
- Féile na nGael: Hurling-Camogie – Saturday, August 21st
- Féile Peil na nÓg: Football-Ladies Gaelic Football – Saturday, August 28th
This year is the 50th anniversary of the first ever Feile and to help mark the occasion the National Committee is working on a number of different initiatives:
- A Commemorative medal
- Draw for competing clubs for ‘Croke Park Experience’.
- Draw for sets of jerseys / merchandise and more
Further details will be announced at the upcoming launch.
Féile Charter
Attached find Féile Charter outlining guidelines for these competitions (plus guidelines for running blitzes). Just to note, Féile games are now for U15 age group. All counties and all clubs are encouraged to take part in what can be a celebration of 50 years of Féile. In 1971 the first Féile na nGael Competition took place and over the years, great memories have been made and friendships forged which is the ultimate aim of Féile. While the competition this year can’t be the traditional one, we would ask all to embrace the concept and make the 50-year anniversary special. Come Halloween there will be additional activity to mark this milestone.
As we plan for activities, at this stage we are looking for feedback from counties as to how Féile will look in their county this year. To this end we are asking all to complete the online form which can be accessed via this link (to be returned by next Wednesday, June 30th):
Handball will be looked at in due course when Covid regulations in relation to indoor sport becomes clearer. Rounders will also be re-visited at a later date.
Thanks for your time. Hopefully this year’s John West Féile can be a memorable one and a fitting 50-year anniversary to what has been a highlight competition down through the years.
