St Colmans: 4-12  St Nicks   3-8 (U/16 C/Ship Semi-final)

On Monday 28th August our U/16 girls played host to St Nicks in the first semi-final of the East Cork U/16 Championship. The game started off with both sides going at it from the throw in where St nicks were first to get some points on the score board. It took us a while to get up to the pace of the game where we were to see our first point scored from Kellyann who was to go on and dominate at centre foward. St Nicks were strong all over the field and this showed in their scoring with Colmans having to rely on Alision for a goal and a point to leave us trailing by 6 points at the short whistle. What ever coach Noel Murray said to the girls at half time it certainly worked as the girls came out with a completely different attitude for the second half. Despite being 6 points down the girls started to play football like professionals, with Daisy and Aisling working tirelessly in the middle and winning some fantastic ball for the half forwards of Kelly Ann,Ava and Alision who gave quick direct ball to the full forward line of Ciere,Ellen and Anita. With the ball that was been delivered in, Colmans started to dominate and quickly drew level with St Nicks. However St Nicks were not too give up too easy and still had a lot of football in them but every time they broke up field they were repelled by Katie,Andrea and Sarah Kate. The attacks that did get thru’ were easily dealt with by our excellent full back line of Sile,Mary and Muireann. These girls are really a solid line of defence for Colmans all year. With every one playing the game that coach Noel Murray was training for all year colmans started to edge ahead and score some fantastic scores. Tara in goals was’nt to be left out pulling off some fine saves, but her main asset was her long kick outs which some-times found the half forward line and set up some of these fine scores. During the last 15 minutes St Nicks picked up the pace of the game again and here Noel was quick to bring on Lucy,Molly,Grainne and Rachel to re-energise our team and this they did in fine style. Everyone played with great determination and conviction and in doing so were able to see the game out to set up a final against the winners of Lisgoold and Cobh.
