U8
U8 training continues on Saturday Mornings with great numbers in attendance. The U8 coaches have teamed up with some of our U14 girls who are helping to mentor the girls. This has been a great success. Our U8s have played one game so far. For some of them this was their first ever game and they played really well and enjoyed themselves. Their next game sees them travel to Shanagarry on Thursday at 7pm to play St Colmans.
U10
Our U10s are continuing with their league games. The girls are putting in some great performances and improving all the time. Their next game will take on Sunday 25th at 11am vs Erins Own in Lisgoold.
U12
Lisgoold/leamlara v Glanmire. We got back to winning ways with some good individual play but more important it was a great team display , our defensive play was good as we didn’t give Glanmire much time on the ball which in turn gave our forwards more chances to score, in what was an entertaining match we were happy to come away with the victory.
Final Score 5:9 to 1:8Lisgoold/Leamlara team Kate Molly Carasue Abbey Molly Rachel B Sophie Siobhan(0:1) Aine(2:2) Lily Chloe(1:2)Shona Aimee(0:2) Lainey(0:2) Sarah Gemma(2:0). This concludes U12 league games. Unfortunately they have not progressed further in the competition.
U14
East Cork League.
Our U14 East Cork League journey came to an end this week (May 2nd). After a number of impressive performances we found ourselves in a 3 way play off with Cobh and Rockbán to progress to the next stage of the competition, This would prove to be a step too far on this occasion but our girls have given a great account of themselves and should be proud of the progress they have made this year. This great group of girls are going from strength to strength and will no doubt have learned valuable lessons which will stand to them for championship. We have played 1 challenge game vs Cloyne and will play another challenge vs St Colmans on Friday 23rd 6.30pm.
U16 East Cork League
Lisgoold/Leamlara played Cobh in the East Cork U16 League on Monday 17th April in the Colaiste Muire School Pitch. It was Cobh who started the stronger as they quickly built up a lead scoring points from various angles inside the Lisgoold/Leamlara defence. Lisgoold/Leamlara battled hard and tried to contain Cobh who continued to dominate the scoring sheet for most of the first half. Lisgoold/Leamlara didn’t get many opportunities to get on the score board but the points we did score were well taken to keep them in contention approaching half time. A few positional switches and with renewed enthusiasm at half time gave Lisgoold/Leamlara renewed energy to continue to battle against a very competitive and skillful Cobh side. Cobh continued to press forward and looked a consistent threat but the Lisgoold/Leamlara defence followed and hassled any player on the ball, not allowing them the comfort and space they had in the first half. Some fantastic blockdowns and dispossessions by the Lisgoold/Leamlara players denied several scoring chances from the Cobh girls. Some good ball being sent forward by the Lisgoold/Leamlara halfbacks and midfield allowed for further scores to be added by the hard working Lisgoold/Leamlara fowards. Cobh however, didn’t give up and scored more to keep Lisgoold/Leamlara on the back foot. Heads up girls, lets continue to improve and learn from each game. Team: MaryEllen, Leann, Dara (0-01), Sarah, Julianne (0-02), Rachel M, Ella (0-03), Kalyssa, Clodagh, Erin, Maebh, Theresa, and Doireann. Our U16 Girls have played some great football in the league but have not progressed in the competition.
Junior Ladies
Our Junior Ladies will begin their 13-a-Side County Championship journey on July 18th vs Grenagh. Unfortuanately we were unable to field in the league but it is our hope that we can compete in the championship and help this young team grow in confidence. We are also looking for a few more players to join the panel and help us over the coming years to return this team to previous successes. Our Junior team over the years has been a pivotal part of this club and have inspired and been admired by younger club members who aim to one day play for our Junior team. If you are interested in joining our team or returning to the club all players old and new are welcome. Please Contact Phil 087920207 for information.
