REPORT ON U14 EAST CORK FEILE  IN KILLEAGH  BY Sheila Dennehy Scanlon
We had a long and busy day out in East Cork u14 Feile competition last sat  at home. We played  4 matches 5 mins aside.  We played Glanmire,  Fermoy B , St Colmans & Youghal . We won 2,  lost 1 and a drew in the last against Youghal, which we should have won. But Youghal had the luck on the day to go through. Going on overall points we had to beat  Youghal to go through to semi of the Feile. Which meant we got through to the semi feile plate instead.
We got drawn to Mayfield in the semi which we won very comfortably and length of time was increased to 10min aside.
So it was Fermoy A in the final. Our girls at this stage were getting tired but really wanted to win this game to get the opportunity to represent  East Cork in the next round in the county competition. We as club would like to wish Glanmire & Fermoy the very best of luck representing east cork in County Feile .
Final was 12min aside,  both teams started off really well. But Fermoy had some very strong girls and had the better luck on the day to pull off some great scores.  We came back in the second half and got a little pip on our step to pull off also some great scores and in the dying moment we got a 13 mark free and had to try to get a goal as we were down 2 pts.  Free was taking by our forward Emma Landers. She took it quickly and short with a pass to Aimee Morgan to have a full on shot but was blocked well by the Fermoy defence and cleared out the field. Ref blew up the whistle and it was Fermoys day to go through to represent East Cork in the county plate competition.
We as management were very proud of the girls overall. They never complain all day and did what we asked and that’s all we can ask. Ye are a super bunch of girls to be involved with and have a promising season ahead in the remainder of the league and championship hopefully.
There are a few people I want to thank personally, my fellow club coaches James Maunsell, Chris Roche for organising the parking Tom Goggin for organising the registration and on call at any time to support as the main contact for all teams on any queries throughout the event. To Sharon for organising all the refreshments, To Killeagh GAA for use of both pitches & facilities;  To all the parents who helped out baking making sandwiches and the parents who stayed on upstairs to serve all and we even had 1 of our u10 parents Annette Fitzgerald who just popped down to drop off cakes to support. This is what it’s all about as club to support all age groups in any way possible.
Well done to our U14 Panel & mentors Sheila Dennehy Scanlon , Aine , Derry & Johnny ,  who were out at social  last night & all the dancing etc had to play  Youghal in league at Killeagh & lost by smallest of margins, heads up ye will be back on track to face Na Piarsaigh in 2 weeks
REPORT BY SHEILA
Our u14’s were out again in league against Youghal.  Had a few missing but we are going to have these days with girls unavailable. We started off well and both sides seem to be very well balanced for a while. But we had a lot of chances that we didn’t take and left youghal take the ball from us too easily.  Youghal had a very strong forward line and put huge pressure on our backs. Both sides still got some great scores to bring the half time score level with  2-1 a piece.
We knew we had all still to play for in the second half which was as tough as the first. Both sides got some great scores from play and it was going to be down to the blow of the whistle to decide who was the winning team. We made a lot of changes throughout hand second half and maybe not always the way to go but we had to try all options to pay off if possible. And some did and others didn’t. Unfortunately wasn’t meant to be and it was Youghals day by a very  small margin of 1 pt . With the final score line Youghal  5-1 to Inchrvrs 4-3.
On behalf of management, we can’t win them all and you have to take losses also to make a team stronger and to learn where we went wrong to move forward.  As the 1 liner in all ages used and which is very true, your only as good as your last game. Heads up and be proud to date with team performance overall.
