 U16 East Cork League

Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Carrigtwohill.
On Sunday the 19th of March our U16 girls played Carrigtwohill in the East Cork League. With a number of players missing on both sides both teams agreed to play 13 a side. This would also mean some girls would be playing out of position. As the first half began it would be Carrigtwohill who would have the majority of possesion. The strong wind would play its part in this contest with it causing a number of passes and scoring opportunities to go astray. Once Carrigtwohill were able to negotiate the Windy conditions they put together some great scores thus growing in confidence. Our girls worked hard to break down their attacks but were no match for the swift passing sequences of this Carrigtwohill team. In the second half we scored a fantastic well taken goal that lifted our girls. We would impose ourselves on the game more following this and create more scoring chances. As our girls grew tired Carrigtwohill would up the tempo and put further scores on the board. Some of the younger members of the squad gave a great account of themselves and worked hard tracking back and chasing every ball. FT Score: Carrigtwohill 5-11 Lisgoold/Leamlara 2-2 Lisgoold/Leamlara Team: Mary-Ellen, Claire, Dara, Lia, Kerri, Doireann, Laura, Ella, Rhiona, Kalyssa,Theresa, Erin, Julieanne, Meabh.

Lisgoold/Leamlara vs St Colmans

On Saturday the 25th of March in the glorious sunshine our U16 girls took on St Colmans in Shanagarry. Weather and pitch conditions were absolutely perfect for playing football. From the off the teams were very even. This was St Colmans first U16 outing this year so Lisgoold/Leamlara had the advantage of having played two games more in the league. This stood to them as they worked hard as a team and came together to play one of the best games of the season so far. Prior to the game the coaches were looking for effort, enthusiasm and teamwork and to their credit the girls did not disappoint. They worked the ball up and down the field creating space and options for each other. They never gave up on any ball, they tracked back and applied pressure allowing them to turn over position on more than one occasion. Our goalkeeper brought off some great saves and read the game really well clearing her lines and preventing St Colmans a number of scores.  Both teams had a share of missed opportunities but once our girls settled they picked off some lovely points. Some great inter play between the midlfield and forwards saw us score 3 goals. The midfield showed great energy continuing to run right up to the final whistle.  Some players were playing in different positions from what they are used to but grew into their roles and did what was required to help the team. When called upon our defenders pulled off some great blocks and tackles. Overall all this was a great contest and very entertaining to watch. Full Time Score: St Colmans 2-0 Lisgoold/Leamlara 3-9. Lisgoold Leamlara Team: Emma, Leann, Rhiona, Doireann, Julianne, Dara, Clodagh(Capt), Laura, Kalyssa, Erin, Emma, Theresa, Kerri, Ella, Claire, Rachel.

U14 East Cork League

U14 East Cork League Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Rockbán B.

On Saturday 11th of March we played our second U14 East Cork League game vs Rockbán B in Rathpeacon. We knew going into the game that this was going to be a tough contest as Rockbán are a strong side and would have a lot of girls up to the age as well as a big panel. Unfortunately due to injury and players unavailable we only had 15. From the off Rockbán were on the attack bombarding our backline with shots on goal and some well worked points. Rockbán were relentless going forward and we were unable to relieve the pressure for much of the first half with our forwards seeing little or no ball. Although Rockbán dominated in attack our midfield and defenders worked hard blocking, tackling and tracking back. The Lisgoold/Leamlara defenders made some greats interceptions while the goalkeeper also brought off some fine saves and clearances to keep the score down. One of our players got injured in the first half and had to go off. Rockbán very sportingly removed one of their players from play to even up numbers. At half time Rockbán were well in the lead so our girls came off disheartened and exhausted from absorbing all the Rockbán attack. Roy and Phil reminded the girls at half time that they were working very hard and they should be proud of all the defensive blocks and scores they prevented. There will be days that you come up against strong teams but you have to use these games as opportunities to learn and grow. Our aim was to go out in the second half with heads up and give it everything again. The second half would see us return to 15 players and we also made some positional changes. We would see much more possession in the second half and our midfield/forwards registered 1-3 on the score board. But Rockbán would prove too strong on this occasion. The Lisgoold/Leamlara girls ran their blue and yellow socks off and gave 110% effort from 1-15. There is plenty of positives to take from this game to help us moving forward with the league. Thank you to Rockbán for the game and good luck to them for rest of season. Lisgoold/Leamlara Team. Emma, Leann, Rhiona, Meabh, Rachel, Dara, Siobhán, Kalyssa, Eilis, Theresa, Aine, Clara, Claire, Julianna, Lainey.

Lisgoold/Leamlara v St.Nicks.

Our 1st league game of the season was played in Lisgoold and we got off to a winning start , from the opening few minutes our midfield and forwards moved the ball around and got some great scores. Whenever St. Nicks went forward our backs did well to get in some blocks.
