Glanmire u12A v Erins Own in Caherlag 26th March 2017
The u12A team got off to a winning start on a lovely sunny afternoon last Sunday in Caherlag against Erins Own Glanmire played against the wind in the first half and went into the break with a 4 point lead with nice scores from Laura O’Brien and Lauren Kelleher. It was also a great defensive effort with Liadin Shepherd and Caoimhe Richmond shining in the backlines. Three fantastic saves by Emily McCarthy Vaughan, who gave a “player of the match” performance ensured Glanmire kept a clean sheet in the first half.
In the second half, despite conceding early, Glanmire started to be more effective upfront and got some good scores. The forward line played very strong with Isabelle Kearney, Abigail Twomey, and Tara Twomey standing out.
As the game progressed Glanmire started to pull away. Megan Sheehan worked extremely hard in midfield and Caila Rose Cowhie had an exceptional game in wing forward.
Well done to Erins Own who kept battling until the final whistle and thanks for hosting the game
U14
Our U14s travelled East last Friday to take on Aghada in the U14 league. Both of these teams were county champions from 2 years ago, Glanmire at A and Aghada at D but although the final score of 2-18 to 1-1 might have reflected this , it did not do Aghada justice and the game would have been much closer but for some excellent Glanmire defending, one Aghada attack in the first half yielded nothing after 4 blockdowns on attempted shots on goal. The halftime score was 1-9 to 0-0, Aghada tried hard but could only manage 2 scores of their own in the second half. Special mention to Eve McMahon who was super on the night and Lucy Moriarty and Lucia O Callaghan for their scores which were their first at A grade. Well done to all.
Congrats to GCC
Congrats also to GCC who followed up on a county win last week with a Munster win over Castleisland in Macroom. Well done to Abbie O Mahony who received the player of the match award.
Our spinathon for Glanmire football clubs is fast approaching, so anyone yet to book their time slot is urged to do so ASAP..
