Social night
As yet another football season is about the start for over 250 girls in Glanmire, the excitement and hard work is building up, but the work has not stopped for any great length of time for the committee this winter time, so far we have had a very successful social night, where we saw 350 club member, friends and committee pack in to attend our annual social/awards night in vienna woods hotel, tickets were hard to come by on the lead up to the event and its not had to see why, medals spand from u6 to junior, while our club person of the year Ellie Crotty a very happy and social Ellie was shocked to learn she had picked up the award only 2 years in to playing with Glanmire, described by club chairman Michael Hannon as a “very smiley and accommodating young lady, who is always at hand to help out her team and club members, who often helps coach the younger ages in the club”, player of the year went to Shauna Murphy, shauna has played football since a young age,and was always a steady player, but this year was hers, playing football on the u16, minor and junior team and shining in all of them, playing football up to 6 days a week along with a hand full of her friends also playing across 3 teams, when her name was announced on the night a hugh cheer came from the crowed, but over all of them her proud mom linda cheered the loudest.
After all the formal awards were presented, the girls, parents and a number of u15 and u16 boys from Glanmire football club (were also had presentations on the night) danced the night away, well done to the parents, players and committee for presenting a great night for all to enjoy.
Glanmire ladies football run
The 2nd glanmire ladies road race is nearly here, been held on the last Sunday of the month 29th of January from the pike field, a 4mile (4.3 to be exact) run, a chip and time has been introduced this year to the delight of all the local running clubs, so all the committed runners will get great benefit from our run, the “running “committee are hard at work already and will be right up till the run its self, the work of Sandra Kelleher and Sheila Walsh is hard to match taking on every aspect of the run, these fab ladies will be available for any runners wishing to pre-register for the run in McCarthy sports world (2nd floor over supervalu) on Saturday 21st of January from 10am till 4pm. on the day there will be shower/changing facilities and refreshments afterwards, everyone is welcome young and old, serious runners and social runners.
