Lisgoold Leamlara Ladies’ Football Notes
U8
Our U8 girls finished off their season by taking part in the end of year blitz hosted by Glanmire. All 14 of the girls played really well in their 3 games against Glanmire, Delaney’s and Inch. Another enjoyable day out on the u8 calendar. We would like to thank David/Roy for all their work this year and making it so much fun for the girls. We appreciate your time, commitment and enthusiasm. Thank you to the parents for bringing the girls to training, matches and the various blitzes they attended this year
U14
U14 East Cork Semi Final vs Carrigtwohill.
Lisgoold/Leamlara advance to the East Cork U14 D Final having overcome Carrigtwohill in what was a thrilling contest played Sunday 9th October at 3pm in Lisgoold. It was Carrigtwohill who started the stronger as they quickly built up a lead scoring some excellent points from various angles inside the Lisgoold/Leamlara defence. Carrigtwohill continued to dominate the score sheet for most of the first half, until Lisgoold/Leamlara began to add up a few well taken points to keep them in contention approaching half time. The scoreboard read 4 points to 7 points in favour of Carrigtwohill at the break.
A few positional switches and the introduction of fresh legs at half time gave Lisgoold/Leamlara a new lease of life in the second half. Every player knew they had much more in them and played as if they each had a point to prove. A hat trick of goals early on in the second half, edged Lisgoold/Leamlara into the lead and gave them the confidence to settle into this game and they began to play some excellent football. Carrigtwohill continued to press forward and looked a consistent threat but the Lisgoold/Leamlara defence followed and hassled any player on the ball, not allowing them the comfort and space they had in the first half. Some fantastic block downs and dispossessions by the Lisgoold/Leamlara players denied several scoring chances from the Carrigtwohill girls. The excellent quality of ball being sent forward by the Lisgoold/Leamlara halfbacks and midfield allowed for further scores to be added by the hard working Lisgoold/Leamlara forwards. Carrigtwohill however, didn’t give up and scored a goal to keep Lisgoold/Leamlara on their toes. Further substitutions on the Lisgoold/Leamlara team allowed another great contest against Carrigtwohill to finish out with Lisgoold/Leamlara winning by 7 points to progress to the East Cork Final. Final Score: 3-08 to 1-07. A fantastic team performance by Lisgoold/Leamlara. Well done girls. Well done to Carrigtwohill team and mentors for their part in this great game.
