Cork Minors Retain All-Ireland Title.
Cork Minor Ladies Footballers retained their All-Ireland title with a hard fought 2-19 to 4-09 over Dublin in Glennon Bros. Pearse Park, Longford on Monday.
Cork were in control of this game through out despite Dublin getting a goal in the opening minute, and victory seemed assured as they led by 9 points entering the last ten minutes but 2 goals from Dublin had the game in the melting pot, Dublin reduced the deficit to 2 points but in those last few hectic minutes Cork showed great maturity in retaining possession and picked off two great points from Ciara McCarthy & Sadhbh O’Leary , a cousin of Emma Roche’s, to secure a great win for Cork.
Cork forwards were in excellent form with Grace Culloty (0-2), Ciara McCarthy, Laura Cleary & Sadhbh O’Leary notching up 12 points from play between them but Cork scorer in chief was Nemo Rangers girl, Saoire Noonan who scored 2-05.
Cork were coached by former Cork footballer John Cleary and the side was captained by his daughter Laura. A huge congratulations to all involved in this wonderful team and no doubt we will see many of them with Cork Seniors in years to come.
For Bride Rovers, it was a great occasion with Grace Culloty & Laura Quirke part of the winning team. Grace contributed to Cork’s tally by scoring 2 wonderful points.
Both girls have being training since January with Cork and it was a great and proud day for their families and the club. Thanks to all the Bride Rovers supporters who travelled to Longford.
