Glanmire Ladies’ Football Notes w/e 17-7-16

Junior
With the exams over but with holidays in full swing , the Glanmire girls are still very busy . We had 2 games this week commencing with the 13 a side county semi final V Kilnameela, the West Cork side travelled to Glanmire for the fixture as we had topped our group in the league. The game started well for Glanmire who had all U17 players on the pitch as we dominated possession but with Kilnameela strong in the forward line which kept them in touch with 2 goals leaving a scoreline of 0-12 to 2-3 at half time. The Glanmire performance in the second half was excellent scoring 6 goals of their own to leave Kilnameela with an impossible task. Kilnameela kept going and to their credit scored a further 2 goals towards the end of the game. We now qualify to play Inch B in the County final.

This was followed by an East Cork minor game on Thursday in a very wet Whitechurch venue, Rockban could only field 12 players so Glanmire matched this. The game was evenly contested for the opening 20 minutes with Rockban 5 points clear at one stage, Glanmire never panicked and eventually found their rhythm, we finished on a scoreline of 8-18 to 5-6 after Glanmire completely dominating the second half. Well done to all especially as most girls had also played 24 hours earlier. Well Done to Kate Hannon and the Cork minors who won a great game last Saturday in Nenagh and now meet Dublin in the All-Ireland final. Congrats to Aoife Finnegan on the birth of her baby daughter last week.

East Cork Development Acamedy for Girls Under 16 in 2017 began last Wednesday and will continue over the coming number of weeks. It was great to see a number of our Glanmire Ladies register for this academy. The girls will receive top class coaching from fully qualified coaches with L.G.F.A certication which will help our girls to fulfil their potential in Ladies Football. Our girls are already part of our successful U 21 County Final Victory earlier this year and Junior and Minor teams who will also be contesting for County honours in August and September having qualified already as a result of games played. The Glanmire Ladies Football Club greatly appreciate the commitment of these girls to the future of the club.
