Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Glanmire
Referee: Laura O Farrell
Score Lisgoold 0:4 Glanmire 9:7
Our U12 girls played their second league game on Wednesday in Lisgoold vs Glanmire. It was a beautiful evening for football and all the girls were really looking forward to it. We were up against very tough opposition where all players were of the age. Our backs were very strong but Glanmire still managed to get in due to the physical difference. Lisgoold never gave up and there was some great football played. The Goalkeeper for Glanmire saved at least 4 shots on target so the score-line could have looked different!

Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Watergrasshill
The Lisgoold/Leamlara U-14 girls played another fantastic game of Football on Saturday 23rd April. Watergrasshill this time were the visitors to Lisgoold, on one of the sunniest days of the year so far. Watergrasshill wasted no time in getting into this game with an early goal to settle their side. Lisgoold/Leamlara answered back pretty quickly with a few points scored early on in the first half to keep this game an interesting contest. Approaching half time, both teams charged forward on the attack, with 2 goals being scored, 1 at each end. The half time score had Watergrasshill leading by just a goal, 2 – 03 to 1 – 03.
After half-time, the Lisgoold/Leamlara girls tightened up in the back line with some excellent defensive skills on display – the blocking and tackling all over the pitch kept the scores few and far apart, in this very exciting and close second half. With about 10 minutes to go before full time, Lisgoold/Leamlara managed to bring the game back to within one point. This was due to the continued effort and teamwork being put in by all our girls. Our backs and midfield took real control of this game and sent some fantastic ball up into our forwards. Unfortunately for us, the Watergrasshill backs also had a good grip on this game and crowded out almost any space or chances our girls had. Watergrasshill managed to sneak 1 last goal at the finish of this game. Final score: Lisgoold/Leamlara 1 – 06 to Watergrasshill 3 – 06. This Lisgoold/Leamlara team are showing continued improvements in each game and this match was again impressive to see their development. Well done girls.

Monday 18th April (Lisgoold)
Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Grange
Referee: AJ Cronin
Score: Lisgoold 4-23 Grange 0-2
On Monday evening our Junior ladies took on the newly formed team of Grange. From the first whistle we were very much on top in this game. We created and converted some great scores. The ladies definitely brought their shooting boots today. The midfield worked tirelessly covering a lot of ground. With a mountain to climb Grange conceded at half time and we played 14v17 for the second half. To their credit Grange kept giving it everything and kept trying to break up the Lisgoold attack. It was nice to see at full time that the entire Junior Team went over to the Grange team and shared some words of encouragement with them. Every club has to start somewhere at it is not easy to stay motivated when you are losing games and just starting off. We wish Grange the best of luck for the year ahead.

Thursday 21st (Grenagh)
Grenagh vs Lisgoold/Leamlara
Referee: Kieran Keane
Score: Grenagh 3-9 Lisgoold 3-6
On Thursday Evening we travelled to Grenagh for our second fixture in four days. From the off the two teams were very even with little between them. Both teams got some nice scores but also missed some scoring chances. Trailing at half time Lisgoold came out with renewed energy and fighting spirit and took it to Grenagh. Every player from 1-13 gave it absolutely everything. This was by far our best team performance of the season so far. With 2 minutes remaining a Grenagh and Lisgoold player collided resulting in a stoppage in play for a number of minutes. Both Players were removed from the field of play and later taken for further treatment. Play resumed with us trailing by 1 point but as we had no subs on the day we continued with 12 players. The ladies gave it one final push but unfortunately they lost out in the end 3-9 to 3-6. The result should take nothing away from the incredible performance, the girls left everything out there on that pitch despite carrying injuries and overcoming illness. Grenagh played their part also in a very competitive game. We would like the thank them for their help on the night following the injuries and wish both their player and Edel a speedy recovery.

Monday 25th (Lisgoold)
Lisgoold/Leamlara vs Ballygarvan
Referee: AJ Cronin
Score: 6-21 to 5-2

Ballygarvan were the visitors to Lisgoold on Monday evening last. Our girls took control of the game early on, working well together, supporting each other and carving out some good passages of play. They converted a number of great scores with the midfield, half forwards and full forwards all contributing. Both teams suffered injuries in the first half with both girls unable to continue. Unfortunately, Ballygarvan did not have any subs so were reduced to 12. Half time score 3-10 to 2-2 in favour of Lisgoold. Although leading there were certain aspects of our game that we wanted to work on and improve in the second half. We were on top for large portions of the game but as the game went on the legs started to tire Ballygarvan stepped up and scored 2 goals in quick succession. Despite this late rally by Ballygarvan we ran out comfortable winners 6-21 to 5-2. The score line could have been very different if it wasn’t for some great work in the back line and by our goalkeeper.

Team: Anne Marie, Rebecca, Aoibhe, Claire, Fiona, Sarah M, Aoife, Leanne, Caoilinn, Sarah K, Siomha, Sara, Kelly, Ashling
