Yet again the weather had not been so cooperative, stopping many of our teams over the weekend playing games, notably it is our feile team and Junior teams have to suffer with cancelling of games yet again, while plenty of training is taking place, it is the challenges of other teams and clubs who will really determine how we fair out this year.
We do however have playing activities during the week with both our 14″B” team playing in lisgoold and 12″A” team playing in Bucklearys against Cloyne.
Our younger kids from u6’s to u12’s are back in training on a Friday from 6pm in Bucklearys cross. Anyone looking for information can contact our Facebook page or Twitter page..
14B v Lisgoold
Glanmire u14B team had another impressive win away to Lisgoold on Thursday 7th April. Glanmire spent a lot of the first half defending against a strong wind, with our goalkeeper Aisling O’Connell saving a number of almost certain goals. All the backs did very well, including half backs Cliona Lynch and Aoife Rodgers who powered their way out of defense regularly.
The forwards made the most of all the opportunities that came their way in the first half, and strong efforts by Megan and Lauren Murphy, ensured we did not fall too far behind at half time
In the second half, aided by a strong wind, Glanmire fought back and stretched into a five point lead with a strong contribution from Caitlin Lynch and a dynamic midfield performance by Aine Mullins.
Lisgoold were not going to give up easily though and, following a strong attacking spell by Lisgoold, they scored two goals and were right back in the game. However, Glanmire recovered valiantly and went out winners by 2 points, with a fine point by Emma Mulcahy in the final minutes to seal the victory. Well done to all girls involved and thanks to Lisgoold for hosting the match
Glanmire Ladies U-12 “A” team played their rescheduled league game against Cloyne on Friday evening last in Buck Leary’s. In tricky underfoot conditions the girls settled into the game quickly with Caitlyn Sheehan dominating at centre back. Our mid-fielders Cliona and Tara supplied plenty of opportunities to enable Megan, Katie, Roisin, and Kelly to score while our defence held strong with Ella, Clodagh, Caragh and Emily keeping Cloyne’s chances to a minimum. With the half-time score of 4-5 to 0-1 in Glanmire’s favour the girls continued to attack the Cloyne goal in the second half with Evie, Abby and Lucy featuring strongly while Leila and Sarah in defence and substitutes Eve and Aoife all contributed to a fine win for the Glanmire girls.
€1,250 was raised by our Spinners, for Marymount, we held a presentation the cheque to cait and Marie, on Monday evening under the watchful eyes of some of our younger kids and some of our spinners once again well done and thanks to everyone who helped out and span on the day.
