Glanmire Ladies Football
Fewer games on this week than last, due to the weather, the pitches were not up to a playing standard, but may have been a blessing because of the participation of most of our club members and mentors in our SPINATHON for Glanmire ladies football club and Marymount, a great community spirit and appreciation come from running events such as our SPINATHON.
We held a very successful Spinathon Saturday 2nd in St. Joseph’s National School, Riverstown, Glanmire, funds will go towards Marymount hospice. A lot of thanks must go to everyone that came along to spin or support the Marymount and Glanmire Ladies Football Spinathon, it was so much appreciated.
A huge thanks goes to Siobhan O’ Sullivan, our spin master, along with Bryan Murphy, her assistant, who Span and motivated everyone, from start to finish.
The event was so kindly sponsored by Supervalu Glanmire, providing refreshment throughout the day for spinners and supporters alike, also many thanks to Winnie Hannon, who is always just a phone call away.
We would like to thank St. Joseph’s National School Glanmire, along with Margaret Barry for allowing us to host the event in their hall, to both SARS and xcelr8 Fitness for the use of their bikes, and to the following companies that sponsored bikes for the event:
David Nodwell Ltd
Crane Worldwide Logistics
Pat Ahern T&A Building Supplies
Maurice Cogan, Little Island
Advanced Catering, Caherlag
JC Products, Dublin Hill
MCS Mechanical, Doneraile
and the following had provided spot prizes after each spin.
Carry Out, Glanmire ,

Our last thanks must go to our dedicated team of minders and providers, who with out them none of the above prizes, helpers, spinners or sponsors would have been sourced, Shiela Walsh, Sandra Kelleher, Michael Hannon, Dave Carey and Eamon O’Connor, A team that you will want behind you whether on the field or not.
U16 v Aghada
U16 Had a east cork league game against Aghada, Glanmire ran out winners on a scoreline of 4-15 to 4-4
both teams were very evenly matches for the first half, but Glanmire picked up speed after the half time break. The captain Ellen Twomey showed great team work and leadership, Ellen Baker, Shauna Murphy, and Niamh Mc Allen all showing their determination and their scoring skills on the day.
U14b v Carrigtohill
Glanmire u14B ladies football team had another impressive win in their league outing against Carrigtwohill on Wednesday evening 30th March in Buck Learys
Glanmire battled against a strong Carrigtwohill team and went into the break one point behind. An all-Kelleher (no relations!) full back line of Erin, Julia and Kate martialled the defence well, were very solid, and went on to excel as a unit in the second half.
Clodagh O’Mahony and Aoife Rogers had a strong game in the half back line and super running by Eve McMahon and Lucy Moriarty in midfield helped feed plenty of ball into the forward line.
Up front, our forwards did very well with scores from Faye Lonergan, Kate Donovan and Amy Cashman, and many others also on the scoresheet with a 3-9 to 2-1 win.
U12B V Fermoy
Glanmire U12B team faced a strong Fermoy team last Thursday 31 March in Fermoy. Glanmire were hoping to build on a strong start to the season but unfortunately Fermoy were a better team on the day
The Glanmire team battled bravely throughout and there were some very fine performances. Nessa Treacy defended bravely throughout and Shauna Forde and Jane Healy worked very hard in defence.
Orlaith Walsh battled bravely up front, and Ciara Rice and Tara Twomey moved the ball well through the midfield, Nessa O’Callaghan and Anna Sreenan also stood out as good performers on the day.
Well done to all for a great performance on the evening and thanks to Fermoy for hosting
