Great Night for Aghada Ladies’ Football as they Celebrate 2015 and mark 40 years
Aghada Ladies’ Football and Aghada Camogie clubs held their annual joint social on Saturday night last.
The Community Hall in Aghada was packed to capacity to mark another great year for both clubs. It was a very special occasion for the football club as they were celebrating 40 years since their foundation and a large number of the very first Aghada Ladies’ Football team in 1975 were guests of honour.
Glamour, glitz and high fashion was the order of the night as all the ladies turned out in great style.
Following a fantastic meal provided by La Trattoria Restaurant, Midleton, the girls, who had achieved so much in the last twelve months, were presented with their medals. Cork Camogie player Hannah Looney did the honours to the Aghada U 15 Camogie team winners of the East Cork
Cork Senior and Aghada ladies’ football stars, Emma Farmer and Roisín Phelan presented the medals to the Aghada footballers. Once again the U 12 girls were the stars of the show winning the U 12 “D” county title for a second year in a row and in fact Aghada teams were in four other county finals during 2015 – a testament to how successful the club has become.
All grades were presented with various medals and the five ladies who represented Aghada on Cork Football teams were also honoured for their achievements: Christine Moran U 16, Sorcha Phelan U 17, Hannah Looney U 18, Emma Farmer and Roisín Phelan Senior. Most improved players were: U 12 Aishling Gilroy, U 14 Ally Rose & U 16 Bridget Wall.
Club Person of the Year went to Barry Moran who was club secretary for the last three years and is a member of the Cork Ladies’ Football Board executive and PRO of the East Cork Ladies’ Football Board.
The biggest cheer of the night went to the team of 1975 and as the team members made their way on to the stage the crowd gave them a standing ovation. Paul Fitzpatrick chairman of Aghada Ladies’ Football thanked all the ladies for attending as some had to travel a very long way and said they were the trail blazers for Aghada who had set the club on the road and presented each of them with a copy of a team photograph taken in 1975. Tom Foley, who was the first trainer thanked the club and said ladies football has come a long way in 40 years and wished the club every success in the future.
DJ Shane Farmer did his magic once again and the crowd danced the night away to some super sounds.
Congratulations and very well done to both committees who put on a superb evening enjoyed by everyone.
Congratulations & Best of Luck
Congratulations to the Aghada girls who have been selected on various Cork panels for the coming year 2016. We have a total of nine girls involved and this is fantastic for Aghada Ladies’ Football Club.

East Cork League
After all the celebrations it is back to basics, and next weekend sees the start of the U 14 East Cork league, unfortunately following all the bad weather some pitches remain closed but hopefully it will improve shortly and allow us to get back on the field of play.
Best wishes to all our young ladies taking part in the East Cork Scór Na bPaistí in Lisgoold next weekend
