Mixed Fortunes for East Cork U 14 Ladies Football Clubs

The quarter finals of the U 14 Cork County ladies Football Championships took place over the last week with East Cork clubs involved in all grades.

Aghada progressed to the semi final of the “A” U 14 Championship when they comprehensively defeated Mourneabbey in Rostellan on Friday night last. In fairness to the North Cork girls they were short a few from injury and sickness and also had played their divisional final a few days earlier. Glanmire were narrowly defeated by Bantry in a top class game which took place on bank holiday Monday. Glanmire were missing a few of their more experienced players through injury and sickness and this made all the difference. Hopefully they will be back at full strength when they represent Cork in the National Féile Finals later in the month in Connaught.

In The “B” championship Inch Rovers had a great win over Éire Óg last week. The East Cork representatives trailed by seven points at half time but came back to eventually win by two points in what was one of the most exciting games so far this year at club level. Rockban the other East Cork club well outclassed Gabriel Rangers in a one sided game to progress to the next stage. Unfortunately Inch Rovers and Rockban must now play each other in the semi final but at least East Cork will be represented in the County Final. Nemo Rangers and Araglin Desmond’s will contest the other semi final at this grade.

In the “C” Championship Erin’s Own were defeated by O Donovan Rossa in yet another rip roaring contest which could have gone either way. Cloyne were also defeated by a very strong well drilled Kanturk side on Saturday last in Kanturk.

Finally in the “D” county championship both the East Cork representatives made their exit Carrigtwohill were out classed by an excellent Keelnameela side and a depleted Watergrasshill team were narrowly defeated by Ballincollig on Monday night
