Glanmire U-14 Girls to Represent Cork at Féile
Ladies ‘Football Féile Peil Na nÓg 2014 County Finals
The top eight U 14 Ladies Football teams in the county played each other on Sunday last for the right to represent Cork in the National Féile later in the year.
East Cork was well represented with Aghada who won the East Cork section of the Féile and Glanmire. But it was to be Glanmire’s day on Sunday as they beat off all other rivals to take the spoils.
Despite the poor weather some very exciting and high class football was played through out the day. In Section one clubs were St Vals, Kinsale, Glanmire and Araglin Rangers and in section two we had Carrigaline, Bantry, Knocknagree and Aghada
Played in a ten minute a side Blitz system St Vals and Glanmire were the strongest in group ”A” and qualified for the semi final. In group “B” Bantry were tops but all the other 3 clubs finished equal on points and had an extra play off with Carrigaline defeating both Knocknagree and Aghada to take second spot.
In two great semi finals and with only a kick of a ball between the teams St Vals and Glanmire advanced.
Unfortunately the Rain and the wind did not relent for the final but despite this both teams served up some great football but is was the Ladies from East Cork who were to take the day. St Vals led at half time by 1-01 to no score but Glanmire had the wind at their backs in the second period and outclassed Vals with some great team work and well taken scores to win by a single point 2-02 to 2-01.So Glanmire will represent Cork in the national Féile for the first time in their history.
Well done to all the teams for playing such great and exciting football. Thanks to Robbie Smythe, Denis O’Shea and their team for their efficiency and thanks to Referees Kieran Keane, Gene Buckley and Chris Cronin for their professionalism and for keeping the games flowing. And finally thanks to the ground staff at CIT for having the playing surface and facilities in top class condition. Congratulation Glanmire and best of luck in the finals.
