Bride Rovers Funday, Sunday August 25th.
Thanks to everyone who helped in any way, including everyone from the juvenile club also, who helped make the funday such a massive success last Sunday. We were blessed with fine weather and the feedback from people leaving was that everybody had a great time. Thanks also to all our neighbouring clubs that sent U6,U8 and U10 panels of players, boys and girls, along to participate in the fun-blitz games. The event would not have been the same without them.
Congratulations to the Cork U16 players and management on their emphatic victory over Dublin in the U16A All-Ireland final last Saturday in Birr. Their victory completed a Cork double over Dublin as the seniors also won their quarter-final earlier in the afternoon.
Monday, August 26th
Bride Rovers 8-7 Midleton 3-3
We had a confidence-boosting win against Midleton last Monday night, ahead of our championship meeting with Rockban (Friday, August 30, 7pm in Rathcormac). The girls combined really well in defence and attack and showed little sign of rustiness after a few quiet weeks on the football front.
Panel : Sarah Murphy, Aisling Finnegan, Siobhan O’Sullivan, Rachel O’Flynn, Emily Larkin, Michelle Lane, Fiona Barry (2-1), Emma Hazelwood (0-1), Grace Culloty (0-3), Andrea Quinn O’Donovan (2-0), Katie Quirke (2-1), Evelyn O’Keeffe, Sarah Geaney, Emma Barry (2-1), Aislinn O’Connor, Anna Murray, Arianne O’Flynn, Caoimhe Hazelwood.
We played 2 league games last week, the first on Monday against Aghada and the second on Thursday against St Colmans.
We were beaten on Monday night but I have to acknowledge the improvement in our backs who were solid, forcing Aghada to shoot for scores from distance. They scored points only in the first half however they were too strong and as the game went on wore down the defence and won by a large margin.
We then played St Colmans on Thursday night and this resulted in a draw. Again both backs and forwards showed the benefit of training as they tackled and shooting was much improved.
The fun day blitz was held on Sunday where we played 3 games against Mitchelstown, Erins Own and Watergrasshill. We drew the first game and won the other 2. All the girls got playing time and the improvement again showed but this needs to be kept up. Everyone got a medal and there was plenty of fun to be had in the field on the day.
Panel: Shauna Hayes, Ciara O’Flynn, Kate O’Riordan, Alice Murray, Megan Buckley, Abby Keating, Kate Larkin, Ruby Hicks, Aoife Lomasney, Niamh O’Sullivan, Lauren Kiely, Caoimhe Kielty, Michelle Geaney, Jessie O’Leary, Alanna Broderick, Abbie Hoare, Shauna Leddy Duffy, Caoimhe Barry, Aoife Pegler
