Fermoy Cubs U14 Football

Fermoy v Mitchelstown

Fermoy U14 Cubs played a challenge match against Mitchelstown on Monday evening in bright but windy conditions.  Fermoy capitalised on early pressure, with both Lisa Geary and Lisa Ring scoring points within the first few minutes.  Then, after a bout of incisive passing, Liadh Carroll turned and hammered home Fermoy’s first goal.

A brace of points from Eve Buckley and Alice O’Driscoll was then followed by another Liadh Carroll goal after great possession down the right flank.  Mitchelstown then broke and made their first attempt on goal which rebounded off the post.  The second attempt was saved well and cleared for a Fermoy counterattack, resulting in an Eve Buckley goal.

Eventually Mitchelstown got their first point from a free in, and started to ratchet up the pressure.  Three quick Mitchelstown goals pulled back a large part of the deficit; a couple were gifted by a leaky Fermoy defence and poor clearances.  Megan Quigley rose to the challenge and made a couple of good stops at the back, preventing any further damage.  Danielle Collins and Maeve O’Callaghan also worked hard to contain any threat.  In the meantime, Eve Buckley grabbed a goal and a point in the lead in to half time.  Half-time: Fermoy 4-6, Mitchelstown 3-2.

Fermoy started the second half in a similar fashion to the first, and were 5-10 to 3-3 up within the first five minutes or so.  After several blistering runs, Caitlin Flynn scored a point and a goal, with Lisa Geary and Alice O’Driscoll adding the other points.  Again, a couple of soft goals nearly undid Fermoy, but the team rallied towards the end of the match and defended the lead well.  Fermoy showed great strength and speed throughout the game, especially in midfield and up front.  Final score: Fermoy 5-11, Mitchelstown 5-5.

U-12

Fermoy tigers had a very good and well deserved win over rivals Midleton.

From start the finish the girls fought very hard and ran out deserved winners. Fermoy took some great scores and took there scores very well and all showed great football skills during the game.

Great running by Katie and Rosin from the start and by dropping high balls into Lauren led to great scores. Brianne speed caused lots of problems for their  defence and made great room for the girls to run into. Kelly made some lovely turns and losing her marker a great number of times took some great scores. Sarah playing in her new position played very well causing problems and making room for Katie to get very well taken scores and take some great points as well. Rosin dropped lovely high balls into Ciara who buried twice  to the back of the net. Siobhan got a  great chance in front of goal and also buried it
Great defending by Caitlin and Sinead who covered a lot of ground and  are forming a good understanding and keeping the  opposition at bay and also great defending by Alana and Antonia and with Siun and Rebekah sweeping up a huge amount of ball it was great to see. Alana Aherne had another rock solid performance in goal and well done to Niamh,Michelle and Cliona giving there all. Keep up the effort girls .

 Fermoy  defeat Cloyne

Fermoy cubs continue their good run in the u16 league with an away win against Cloyne.

We started well and kicked four points in the first ten minutes, and when Aoife Ring scored our first goal there was only going to be one winner. We led well at half time. In the second half our good form continued and we ran out easy winners.

Cubs made it four wins out of four when they beat Watergrasshill at home last Sunday morning. We played some very good football for the first twenty minutes and led 1-4 to no score, but Watergrasshill came back strongly before half time and only for some bad shooting the match would have been a lot closer. Some early goals in the second half sealed the match for us.

Junior Football

Fermoy Junior Ladies football team played Bantry in the semi-final of the County league in Inishannon on Sunday April 28th. Playing a west Cork team in football is always a tough task but Fermoy were well prepared for the challenge on the day. In nice conditions the hard ground suited the Fermoy team and they started brightly. Playing a fast paced team game they ran at the Bantry defence and notched up the scores. At half time they led by 7 points. The second half continued in the same fashion and the winners were decided a long time before the final whistle. The lead that Fermoy had allowed them to use all their substitutes on the day. They now play local team Glanworth in the Junior County League final. We played Glanworth previously in the league campaign which Glanworth won comfortably so the final is going to be a tough task. Your support would be greatly appreciated. The final will be played in a local venue this coming weekend..
