Fermoy v Kilshannig

Fermoy U14 Ladies kick-started their season with a friendly against Kilshannig on Sunday morning in Fermoy.  As always, the first few challenge games offer the chance for the coaches to assess the full panel of players before settling on first team choices.  The task was made harder on Sunday by the level of energy and commitment all the girls put into this game.

All twenty eight players were given a good run out, and, remarkably, the team retained its shape throughout the match.  After an initial rusty start, and an early opposition goal which caught Fermoy napping, the team rallied round and came back with a goal and a point within the first fifteen minutes.  After some end-to-end play, Fermoy finished the first half 4-3 to Kilshannig’s 2-2.

It was a day the goalkeepers were tested, and three more goals and a point were claimed by Fermoy, with three goals added to Kilshannig’s tally.  The match was a tough start for Fermoy; Kilshannig were no pushover, but Fermoy stood up well to the strong, organised opposition.  All-in-all, a good first test of the season for Fermoy U14s.
