Erin’s Own U16 ladies lined out against Lisgoold on Thursday Evening 25th in Killeagh in the East Cork Ladies Football C Final.
Lisgoold were favourites to win this match as they have always been superior at this age group. Erin’s Own lined out with a very young side. With 1 girl U16, 7 U15s and the rest U14 this was always going to be a big ask of them. But backed up by a fine East Cork victory at U14 these girls were full of confidence that they would not let the side down and so it came to pass.
After a fantastic 1st half display of football from both sides the half time score was tied at 1.05 each. However, Erin’s Own had played the half facing into very strong wind and were happy enough at half time.
The second half started brightly for Erin’s Own and they totally controlled possession and field position. Tried as they did the Lisgoold team were finding it very difficult to get the ball past half way and brilliant football from Erin’s Owns half back line ensured constant possession for the Erin’s Own forwards who were really beginning to rack up the goals and points. Heroic defence from the gallant Lisgoold ladies and especially their excellent goal keeper saved their team on numerous occasions. But Lisgoold visibly tired and Erin’s Owns superior fitness was really beginning to show with no let up until referee Niall Barrett finally blew full time.
This was a remarkable performance from Erin’s Own with great ball control and clinical finishing being their strong points.
Final Score Erin’s Own 5.12 Lisgoold 1.09

We would like to thank Killeagh Gaa for providing their fantastic facilities on the night and also Niall Barrett referee for his fair and impartial work.
