Aghada U 16 girls were crowned East Cork B Champions on Sunday 21st when they defeated Mayfield by the narrowest of margins in Lisgoold. Playing with the aid of a stiff breeze Aghada opened the brighter with points and a goal from Cork ace Hannah Looney, but Mayfield came in raids and struck two great goals from Robyn Cummins and points from Tana O Mahony. Mayfield finished the first half the stronger leading on a score line of 2-2 to 1-4.
Aghada made a number of changes at half time and these paid dividends as almost from the throw in Rebecca O Sullivan goaled for Aghada but from the resulting kick out Mayfield goaled. The game was very exciting at this stage with end to end football and both teams scoring some great scores. Quick thinking by Hannah Looney saw her goal from a close in free and this gave Aghada a slight lead. There was never more than a point in it for the remainder of the game but Aghada ran out winners on a score line of Aghada 4-5 Mayfield 3-7.
All the girls in both teams put in a great effort with Christine Moran, Hannah Looney, Hannah Rose, Megan Barnes , Cassie Tynan and Amanda Bennett to the fore for Aghada while Tana O Mahony, Shauna Cronin, Lauren Berry and Sinead Mills stood out for Mayfield.
