Imokilly 0-10  Clonakilty  1-09

 

Wednesday 1st August saw Imokilly take on Clonakilty in the quarter final of the Senior Championship at Redmond’s GAA grounds. Imokilly got on the scoresheet first with 2 points from Saoirse Moore before Clon got of the mark with a point of their own. The forward line of Clon looked threatening whenever they got on the ball and soon they had the ball in the net to put them 2 points up. A further 2 points were added by Clon before Valerie Mulcahy and Emma Farmer tacked on points for Imokilly. Points from Laura Crowley and Saoirse Moore Brought Imokilly’s tally to 6 points by the end of the first half to leave Clon ahead 1-07 to 0-06.

Going into the second half it was expected Imokilly could take advantage of the strong wind and drive on but although they outscored Clon by 4 points to 2 it was not enough against a Clon side that clearly had their homework done and just frustrated the Imokilly side who had no answer to their tactics. Scorers for Imokilly in the second half were Emma Farmer (2) Valerie Mulcahy (1) Aishlinn Hutchings (1).

Meanwhile there are two more East Cork teams left in the Finals which sees Bride rovers paired with Inch Rovers in the Semi’s  which will be played in September. Best of luck to both teams, a pity they had to meet at this stage but it at least guarantees one east Cork team lining out in the Final.
