East Cork Ladies’ Football U-16 League Titles for Glanmire, Aghada & Carrigtwohill

Thankfully Cork was spared the worst of the weather on Sunday last when three of the four U 16 Ladies’ Football league titles were decided.

U 16 East Cork “A” League Final

In the “A” decider, Glanmire overcame Fermoy in a good hard game of ladies’ football played in Fermoy at 12 o’clock. The Glanmire panel, with a nice blend of youth and experience had too much fire power for the Fermoy girls and deserved their victory on a score line 2-11 to 1-05. The presentation was made to Glanmire captain, Kate Hannon, by Paul O’Sullivan, Fixtures’ Secretary East Cork Ladies’ Football Board. Both of these teams will now represent the East Cork division, with Glanmire playing Bantry and Fermoy taking on Kinsale in the U 16 “A” county championship

U 16 East Cork “D” League Final

Onto Mayfield for the “D” final, where Carrigtwohill easily accounted for a brave and young Mayfield side, who were chasing the game from the word go. Powered on by Ciara Brennan & Sinead O’Brien the Carrig girls set about their task from the throw in, scoring some fine points and had the ball in the Mayfield net four times in the first period.
Mayfield rallied in the second half, scoring some good goals of their own but it was to be the Carrigtwohill girls’ day as they ran out easy winners on a score line 5-13 to 3 01. The presentation was made by Philip Harrington, Secretary East Cork Ladies’ Football Board to Róisín O’Driscoll, Carrigtwohill and afterwards it was straight back to Carrigtwohill to take part in the Vintage Parade through the main street. Carrigtwohill now play Ballinora and Mayfield play Castlehaven in the U 16 “D” County Championship

U 16 East Cork “B” League Final

The “B” final saw Aghada travel to Rathcormac to take on Bride Rovers in a repeat of last year’s decider in a game timed for 6 pm. What a lovely evening it was with hardly a cloud in the sky and a light breeze blowing across the field. Bride Rovers were first on the score sheet with a good point from Katie Quirke in the opening minute but from the kick out Aileen MC Grath had the ball in the Rovers’ net for Aghada and from there the sea side girls opened up a significant gap with every forward scoring points and Lauren Linehan adding a second goal mid way through the half. Cork ace Grace Culloty scored a good goal for the Rovers and Quirke tacked on some fine points but trailed at the break by 2-13 to 1-06, in fact, were it not for some fine saves from Sarah Murphy in the Rovers’ net the Aghada girls would have been out of sight.
The second half was just as hectic with both sides playing some lovely fast open free flowing football. Aghada captain Christine Moran and Sarah Leahy had fine games in the centre of the field for the sea side ladies and the team played some lovely cohesive football, out scoring the home side by two to one. When Lauren McAllister hit a superb third goal in the forty-third minute this game was all over as a contest. To their credit Bride Rovers never gave up but the Aghada backs stood firm and held them to a few well taken far out points. Aghada eventually took the title on a final score line 3 -19 to 1-11. This was a great team performance by a young Aghada team who played exceptionally well throughout the field.
Aghada now play Douglas and Bride Rovers play Kilshannig in the U 16 “B” County Championship next Monday evening
