GAELIC4GIRLS
Congratulations and well done on your performance in the g4g blitz Croke Park. We are working on putting together a booklet as a memento of the occasion so would be delighted if anyone who has pictures etc could get in contact with me 0879202071 and she will arrange to get them. Also we would like to know what the girls/parents made of the day best memory, a summary etc. This will be included also. Email Club Chairperson at lisgooldladiesfootball@hotmail.com
Gaelic4Girls kicked off in Lisgoold and ended in Croke Park !
Gaeilc4Girls was officially launched in Lisgoold on Friday 1st May. Lisgoold was one of only two Clubs chosen in Cork as part of the National roll out of the Programme which has taken place in 35 Clubs across Ireland. The fourteen girls who took to the pitch in Croke Park on 6th July 2015, displayed their newly acquired skills out in the stadium of dreams along with representatives from the 32 counties of Ireland.
Gaelic4Girls is an initiative created by the Ladies Gaelic Football Association to introduce girls between ages 8 and 12yrs to Gaelic Football in a fun way that allows individual skills to be developed and practiced through small group focused games.
We had girls well representing many areas including, Dungourney, Midleton, Castlelyons, Leamlara and Lisgoold.
On Monday 6th July the girls arrived in Croke Park, many for the first time. Following registration the team were led into the changing rooms and emerged into the Stadium through the infamous tunnel.
At 2.45pm the moment came when the team were to play their first game against Abbeyside of Waterford and the Blue & Gold strode out onto Croke Park proudly representing Cork, confident in their ability and delighted at the occasion.
Parents, Grandparents, brothers, sisters, mentors and players alike could not take in what was happening – many photos were taken and a few tears shed!
A word too for our own officials from Lisgoold – Maurice Mulcachy, Development Officer with the Munster Ladies Gaelic Football Council who was instrumental in making this happen for Lisgoold / Leamlara – Maurice we thank you. Also our own Cara O’Brien who was asked to Referee on the day – to get a chance to referee in Croke Park is exceptional – we congratulate you!
The girls, both new and existing to the Club, displayed excellent skills in beating all three teams in their group, Abbeyside, Co. Waterford, Naomh Padraig, Co. Antrim and Meenlough, Co Galway. The team were presented with their medals by Olwen Carey current Dulblin Senior Ladies Player and they left the Stadium with their heads held high having represented East Cork and the Lisgoold Club to the highest standard.
We want to acknowledge all the parents, and extended family members who made the trip to Croke park to support the Girls and especially to those from Dungourney.
