Gaelic4Girls
Lisgoold Leamlara ladies football has been picked along with Youghal by the Ladies Gaelic Football association to host the Gaelic for Girls programme.
It is a 12 week programme aimed at increasing participation of girls 8-12 yrs old in ladies gaelic football, with the first 8 weeks dedicated to the new G4G participants and the remaining 4 for the integration into the current club setup.
Our first aim was to advertise the programme to the local children by making contact with the national schools in the parish ie Leamlara, Balincurrig, Dungourney, Castlelyons and Bartlemy.
Eilis, Valerie, Mary and Aoife visited Dungourney school and were made very welcome by the principal and staff. We spoke to girls 8-12 years old and had a massive interest from the Dungourney girls who don’t have a local ladies football club.
Similiar visits were made to Leamlara and Ballincurrig and again the staff and Principals were very welcoming and enthusiastic.
We will also visit Castleyons and Bartlemy very soon.
The first session with registration will take place at 6.30pm on 1st May in Lisgoold Pitch. Programme Coordinator is Gavin O’Brien with support from other trainers Valerie Collins, Edel Cronin and Dave O’Sullivan.
Upon completion of the programme girls will receive a G4G jersey, a certificate and an opportunity to join Lisgoold Leamlara ladies Football club.
This Friday, we have Donnacha Savage and Eilis Walsh on board for the launch.
The club would like to thank everyone who has put time and effort in to this programme. Under 8 training is progressing very well with a large turnout every week.

The U10s played there 1st league match at home to Bride Rovers on a beautiful Sunday morning with a large crowd of supporters. We had a team of 13 and all the girls played really well with the ball going up and down the field for the entire game and everyone of the girls got stuck in. We were very proud of the way all the girls played and some of these girls were playing for the 1st time at this age group. Keep up the practice girls. We were unlucky not to draw. The final score was Bride Rovers 3 -2 Lisgoold 2 -4

Comments: The score line didn’t reflect the cometative nature of this match. The 1st half ended with Na Piarsaigh leading by just a point with both teams playing very well. Na Piarsaigh strength showed as the game went into the final few quarter and got some easy scores. Great skill in blocking and passing was great to see from such young players.
