Aghada Ladies’ Football January Notes
Long Kick
The annual long kick was a great success again this year with over 25 teams taking part thanks to Julie from the Schooner Bar Whitegate for sponsoring the event and TK’s for the use of his premises but thanks to everybody who turned out to make it a super day.
Annual Social
l
2014 was the most successful year in the history of Aghada Ladies’ Football Club and a very large crowd turned out to acknowledge the tremendous achievements of a great bunch of young ladies at our Annual social which was held at the local community centre in conjunction with the Aghada Camogie Club.
The highlight of the year undoubtedly was winning the County Junior “C” League and Championship double and the U 12 “D” county title.
Aghada also won East Cork Championships at U 10 “A”, U 14 “A”, U 16 “A” and Junior “B”
In July the club was awarded the Tesco Sponsored Cork Club of the Month award which is testament to years of hard work and dedication by many people both on and off the pitch.
Aghada had 5 girls who played on various Cork teams with Emma Farmer and Roisín Phelan part of the senior Cork team that won the National League and All Ireland Championship. Following the presentation of medals awards and a surprise birthday cake for three members who celebrated their birthday on the night, the Club Person of the Year for 2014 was announced. This year the award went to Ian Rose who has done tremendous work for the club not only last year but over the last number of years.
Thanks to DJ Shane Farmer who once again worked his magic and had the crowd on their feet with the dance floor full all night.
Training
Some age groups have started back training with the U 14 and U 16 in action in the East Cork leagues over the next few weekends and the Junior county leagues expected by middle of the month.
Cork Senior Ladies
Well done to Roisín Phelan and Emma Farmer who made a winning start to the season with the Cork Ladies’ Football senior team on Sunday last when they defeated Mayo in the National League.
