East Cork U 16 “B” League Title For Bride Rovers Ladies

For the second year in succession Bride Rovers U 16 Girls defeated Aghada in the East Cork U 16 “B” league final played in Rostellan on Saturday last. The overhead conditions were dark and gloomy but the standard of the play was top drawer with both sides playing fast open football. Aghada started the brighter with a score in the opening minute and had three points on the board before Bride Rovers opened their account in the eleventh minute. Aghada forged ahead again and Rovers equalised with a well taken goal. For the most part the sea side girls had the bulk of the play in the first half but only led by a single point at the break 0-07 to 1-03 .
The second period was fast and furious Aghada opened up a gap only again to be pulled back. Rovers led by two points for a short period before Aghada hit a purple patch and opened up a five point gap after just ten minutes and one would have expected them to pull away at this stage but once again the Rovers Ladies fought back scoring two further goals. The sides were level in the sixthty minute when the Rathcormac girls made the final push scoring two great points to leave them victorious on a score line 4 08 to 2 12. Aghada will rue many missed chances but the never say die attitude of the Bride Rovers girls and their ability to score goals at the vital time was the difference between the teams in this tie. Congratulations to Bride Rovers and very well done to both teams for a great game of football.
Well done to the Ladies from the Aghada Club for providing a lovely spread of refreshments for both teams after the match.
