U-12 NEWS
Report by Sandra O Brien , on the U12’A’ County Final in Midleton Vs Erin’s Own 24-9-14
Inch Rovers 2-05 Erin’s Own 0-08
After two hard fought battles with O Donavan Rossa & Nemo Rangers Inch Rovers earned their place in the final and deservedly so..Having met Erin’s Own earlier in the year in the league and beating them by a small margin, everyone knew this game was going to be close …a beautiful evening in Midleton, super conditions no breeze, The ref brought both teams together face to face and explained some rules etc but a poignant minutes silence ensued for mentor Sean Lavery Rip and when minute was up rapturous applause broke out for a man that brought so much to the club in his knowledge of the game
, The game started bang on 6:15, it took both teams awhile to settle, with great defensive work being done on both sides scores were proving very hard to come by, but it was Erin’s Own who scored their 1st point from a free after 11 mins of play, inch players settled and a fine point was scored by Elana Kelleher followed by another pt from Erin’s Own from another free, Aimee Morgan levelled things again with a great pt from play. There was some fantastic passages of play on both sides and Erin’s Own got another pt from a free but Inch Rovers replied and Sarah Roche made a brilliant run up the middle to score a great point to level the game again Erin’s Owen got 2 more pts 1 from a free and 1 from play from play which meant at half time Inch Rovers were down 2pts.
Time to regroup Chris, Kevin & Niamh spoke to the team and you can be rest assured Sean Rip had a part in it too inadvertently… Inch came out in 2nd half all guns blazing and after 7 mins Caoilfhionn Barry scored a superb goal , inch girls were lifted by this and got another point shortly after from a free courtesy of Zara Bowles , however Erin’s Own were not going to give up and scored 3 unanswered points , shortly after Sarah Roche got a great point from a free to level matters once more with 7 minutes to go , it was nail biting at this stage and with 3 minutes to go Aimee Morgan scored a sublime goal ,with everyone holding their breath till final whistle Inch held out to win a superb game of sporting Football and were deservedly crowned U12 ‘A ‘ County Champions .
Every girl on the team played outstanding namely Goalie Niamh O Connor , full back line Megan O Donovan , Sinead O Brien , & Chloe O Donovan , half back line Grainne Lynch , Aine O Driscoll (Capt.) &Aisling Tyrell , midfield pairingElena Kelleher ( vice Captain) & Zara Bowles half forward line Nadine Seward , Sarah Roche &Ciara Steele , full forward line Aimee Morgan , Rebecca Manning & Caoilfhionn Barry and most importantly the subs who are equally as important to the panel , Zoe Whelan , Andrea Walsh , Lorna Mc Carthy , Kate Gould , Mia Burke , Sarah Kent , Clara Scully , & Lynsey Hunter , Manager Chris Roche , Niamh Roche , & Kevin O Driscoll who prepared this bunch of girls so well and reaped the ultimate reward in doing so especially for Sean Rip who certainly was looking down on all. Amid jubilant celebrations , tears of joy and sorrow ,
Damian Irwin Manager of Erin’s Own and a Killeagh man , gave a beautiful speech kindly remembering Sean rip , saying this win is especially for him , County Board pro gave another lovely speech and the cup was presented to Capt Aine O Driscoll who gave a beautiful speech and said each of players would never forget Sean rip and what he thought them …jubilant scenes followed , it was also lovely to see Sean’s wife Mary and son Ross & daughter Aisling attend the match and came in to join the family of Inch Rovers Ladies Football which they are certainly a big part of now and always will be “Beidh tu a mheabhru i gconai ar an Sean agus ta do mian curtha i gcrich” “You will always be Remembered Sean and your wish has been accomplished ” The Panel and mentors enjoyed coming back to Killeagh / Inch with the Silverware in hand and enjoying refreshments .
Congrats to one and all you are a credit to the Club and great role models for teams coming up and above ye also it must be noted the superb support the Team had tonight it was only fantastic , great to see so much support for this wonderful bunch of girls , I will sign of with this quote ” Football is Football and Talent is Talent , but the mindset of your Team makes all the difference ” there is no ‘I’ in Team but there is in Win ( Michael Jordan ) enjoy the celebrations ,
U-10 NEWS
Our under tens played Aghada in Killeagh on Monday 1st of September. We had a great turn out with 26 girls wanting to play. Every girl played one full half. The first half proved to be a very close contest and Aghada proved to be very worthy competitors. But fresh legs in the second half made the difference and we pulled away in towards the end. A great win for Inch well done congrats to all the girls and we are looking forward to the under 8 & 10 blitz on Saturday September 13th.
U-14 NEWS
Our u14’s were out today playing East Cork league final against Rockban in Caherlag. We had 19 girls on the panel today and were well up for this match today. We even had a teddy on board dressed up by Meagan Murphy to support us.
> Both teams started off very well. We knew Rockban strength was through the centre so had the girls marking up very tightly on these players Rockban got the first score on the scoreboard with a pt. Our girls really settled very early in game which don’t usually happen. We came back and levelled the scoreboard with a pt from Kelly Steele. Rockban just seemed to get there scores easier and got another 3 pts from play. But our girls never gave up and from a great pass running through the centre from Amy Keohane to Kelly Steele to berry the ball in back of the net. It lifted the game for Inch and both sides kept plugging along and got some more great scores from our forwards Amy Keohane, Shannon Cremin ,Kelly Steele and another great goal from a free at the 20 taken by Rose Goggin to drop in over the goalkeeper head. To finish the first half Rockban 1-8 to Inch rovrs 2-4.
We knew the second half was going to be as tough as the first half and we still had all to play for.
Second half kicked off with Rockban scoring another 2 pts early and had stepped up a gear and our girls did same to bring the score board back to a pt in difference with 10min to go. We got another few great scores from Shannon Cremin & Kelly Steele to bring the scoreboard level with 2 mins to go. It was so close with outstanding performance from both sides and the standard of football at this age level was a credit to the girl’s ability. We got a goal which was disallowed scored by Rose Goggin so Rockban from there went back up the field and our full back line who played outstanding right through the game tried really hard to stop them coming through but unfortunately they got the pt to win the game to bring the full time score to Rockban 2-11 to Inchrvrs 2-10.
> On behalf of myself and James we couldn’t ask any more from this outstanding bunch of girls, they played there hearts out and gave it all today and we couldn’t ask anymore as there coaches then that. Where credit is due I’m so proud of you and heartbroken for ye once again to getting so close to winning a final. But our forward Rose Goggin was nominated as player of the match from ref and was well deserved to help the heartbreak for the girls.
