Glanmire Girls Victorious in U-14 “A” League Final
Glanmire 5-10 Aghada 4-06
Glanmire U-14 girls performed exceptionally well as they defeated Aghada in the final of the U-14 “A” league played on a lovely sunny evening in Rostellan last Thursday.
Aghada started the stronger and were 1-01 to 0-01 up after ten minutes before the Glanmire machine kicked into gear. Playing a sweeper behind the half back line worked well as it allowed them to come up the field in waves and had the overlap every time. They scored three goals and three points without reply before Aghada responded and finished the half with a flourish scoring 1-02 to leave the score at the break 3-06 to 2-03.
Aghada again started the half well and closed the gap to just 3 points with a goal in the opening minute but that was as good as it got for the seaside girls as the strength of the Glanmire ladies came through and they scored two more goals and also some lovely points to put day light between the sides. One has to admire the Aghada girls who never gave up and fought to the bitter end scoring another goal and a number of points. In the end it was to be Glanmire’s night as they ran out very deserving winners on a score line 5-10 to 4-06
The draws for the U-14 East Cork Championship were made on Wednesday night and with both clubs in the opposite half’s of the U-14 “A” competition who knows the sides may meet again later in the year.
Well done to both teams for a very fast open game of football and congratulations to Glanmire League Champions for 2014.
