East Cork Ladies Football Junior “C” 13 A Side Final
Mayfield 1-09 Lisgoold 1-04

Mayfield Ladies Junior Football team defeated Lisgoold in the East Cork final of the Junior C 13 a side competition played in Mayfield on Monday night. The city girls started the better and raced into an early lead scoring 7 unanswered points before Lisgoold got their first score late in the first half. Mayfield would have been further ahead but for some suburb and brave goalkeeping by Phil McCarthy in the Lisgoold goals, Unfortunately Lisgoold lost two very influential players during the first period due to injury and this did not help their cause as they had a mountain to climb after the break.
They did manage to narrow the gap but it was the city girls who showed more drive and hunger as they contested and chased every ball. Both sides played attractive and free flowing football at times putting together some lovely passes but they were also guilty of some very poor shooting. We had to wait until the thirty first minute in the second period for the first goal and it was Lisgoold who were rewarded for some relentless pressure but from the resulting kick out and almost on the stroke of full time Mayfield struck a cracker of a goal them selves to leave them deserving winners on a shoreline 1-09 to 1-04.
Barry Moran PRO of the East Cork Ladies Football Board presented Christina O Callaghan the Mayfield captain with the cup and complemented both teams on a very entertaining game with a fine standard of football.
