East Cork Ladies’ Football Junior “B” Championship Final
Aghada 3-12 Glanmire 4-04
“Super performance by Aghada Junior Ladies”

Aghada looked to put the ghost of 2013 behind them in Caherlag on Sunday night, having lost by a single goal last year in the corresponding fixture V Midleton. But it was the Glanmire girls who got off to the better start converting 2 goals and point in the opening 7 minutes Aghada knew they were in for a tough evening if they were to be victorious. Sinead McCarthy had to go to the well and draw from her experience to keep the back line from breaking under intense Glanmire pressure, Minors Cassie Tynan and Sophie Bawden began to get a handle on their opponents and gradually Aghada grew in to the game. Fresh from a Munster final hat trick Emma Farmer got Aghada on the board with a great improvised goal with the outside of her right boot. Still Glanmire kept the pressure on Aghada and converted another goal opportunity plus a pointed free. Kerry O Neill put in though shift trying to escape the shackles of the impressive Amy Turpin from Glanmire, Kerry provided leadership for the forwards and newcomer Maria O Neill is a real find for Aghada with her excellent work rate and intelligent distribution. Glanmire kept finding space for the Cork U16 star Katie Hannon and she had Aghada in all sorts of trouble. Just when Aghada thought they had worked their way back in to the game Glanmire goaled again with a cracking drive low the left corner giving the keeper no chance. At half time Aghada trailed 3-3 to 1-4 and were in big trouble.
Aghada management took the team in to the changing room at half time and whatever was said had the desired effect. From the throw in Sinead o Driscoll expertly tapped the ball down for the majestic Roisin Phelan and after a slaloming run through the Glanmire defence she converted a cracking point. Now Aghada were playing with determination, keeping possession and started to tack on more points through Hannah Looney, Emma Farmer, and Sinead O Driscoll, but just as they thought they were getting a grip Glanmire goaled again, Jennifer got fingertips but could not stop the rocket. From the resultant kick out Aisling O Connor carried the ball up to Emma who slipped it to Hannah Looney, now all Glanmire eyes were focused on Emma Farmer for the return ball but showing her class she released Hannah Rose in space on the left and she goaled with a cracking low drive to the far corner. The game was now within touching distance for the girls in green. Amanda Bennett, Moira Mc Govern and Sorcha Phelan all had massive performances in the second half and ensured Aghada retained the ball and worked the scores. As Aghada pressed forward Glanmire looked to hit us on the break but now the experience of Captain Laura Burchill and the pace of Cassie Tynan really closed the deal. Emma goaled again and tacked on a beauty curling in from wide on the right. Glanmire led the game until the 54th minute but now Aghada had the lead when it mattered most. An unusual yellow card for our no 8 only seemed to redouble the effort and intensity and the girls in green took the cup on the final whistle winning on a score line of 3-12 to 4-4. Well done to both teams for a great final.
This was a fantastic win for the club to add to the County Junior league title won earlier when the defeated Castlemagner in another super match.
