Junior Football

Wednesday, July 2nd, Pynes
Bride Rovers 2-8 Glanmire 1-11

This East Cork championship semi-final was very much a game of two halves. In the first half, we got off to a very slow start, of which Glanmire took full advantage, notching up some fine scores despite the best efforts of our backs. They led at half-time on a scoreline of 1-6 to 3 points.

In the second half, we played much better, and with the introduction of a few substitutions & positional switches, we managed to claw our way back into the game. Two crucial goals from subs Sarah Barry & Grace Culloty meant we finished the game level on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-11.

Glanmire 1-12 Bride Rovers 1-8

We lost out to a good Glanmire team in this junior East Cork semi-final replay. We started very brightly with our backs defending resolutely, our midfielders working tirelessly and our forwards clicking with some great passages of play & some fine scores being recorded. Unfortunately however, we conceded a goal 5 minutes before the break, which left us trailing on a score 1-8 to 0-8 at halftime.

On resumption of the game, Glanmire made the better start, notching a couple of more points to stretch their lead to 7 points. Our girls continued to work hard right up to the very end, with substitute Sarah Barry scoring a goal to reduce to gap to 4 points. Despite tremendous effort from every one of the girls, we couldn’t close the gap any further. The final scoreline read Bride Rovers 1-8 Glanmire 1-12.

U 14 Ladies Football

Glanworth were our visitors to Pynes on Tuesday, July 1st for a friendly match. This was a much needed outing for our girls who had not played much football in recent weeks. We had a tremendous turnout of players and played better and better as the game went on, sealing a good win at the end. Thanks to Glanworth for coming down to us.
Glanworth had some bad news this week with the passing of club stalwart Mary Mahon who will be much missed. Mary was great to organise underage friendly games against Bride Rovers over the years. May she rest in peace.
