U-14 “B” Ladies Football County Final
Rockbán just pipped at the post
Nemo Rangers 3-11 Rockbán 2-10.
Goals win matches and three goals in the second half for Nemo Rangers U-14 Ladies team saw them lift the “B” County trophy for 2014 at a very sunny Delanys GAA grounds on Friday night.
This was a great game of Ladies football played by two very good teams who both really wanted to take the title.
The East Cork representatives were first out of the blocks and raced into a three point lead in the first six minutes before Nemo steadied the ship with points in the eight and ninth minute. Ace forward Meabh Fitzgerald scored a great goal for Rockbán and from the resulting kick out Dara Twomey pointed to put the East Cork girls well in the driving seat. They scored a number of fine points but should have pressed home their advantage more during this period and were guilty of some poor wides. Full credit to the Nemo girls who kept in touch with some fine points of their own and reached the break trailing by only four points 1-07 to 0-06.
Nemo now playing with the wind came out all fired up for the second period and narrowed the gap just to two points in the opening five minutes and with both sides playing tremendous football the large were really getting their monies worth. Nemo hit the front for the first time when Jessica Sheahan goaled in the thirteenth minute after some super team work involving Ilana Keegan and Ellen Twomey who was chosen at centre forward but played in the corner. From the resulting kick out Rockban went straight back up the field and Roisin O’Donovan hit the back of the net to give the East Cork girls the lead again. Both sides scored some great points until the City girls scored their second goal when liana Keegan who was outstanding at centre field floated a long ball in that went all the way to the net to give Nemo a two point advantage. Rockban did manage to narrow the gap but it was the City girls who finished the stronger and Jessica Sheahan got her second goal again from a super pass from Ellen Twomey right on the stroke of full time to leave the final score 3-11 to 2-10
Congratulations to Nemo R angers and very well done to Rockbán who were worthy representatives for the East Cork division.
Referee Chris Cronin had a fine game but in fairness his job was made easy by two outstanding teams who gave an exhibition of superb football.
