East Cork Schools capture Cork Colleges titles
Senior “A”
Loreto Fermoy 6-13 Colaíste Choilm Ballincollig 1-8
Loreto Fermoy captured the Cork Senior A Colleges title with a good win at a sun-drenched Ballincollig venue on Thursday, May 15th. Exchanges were even for most of the first half which saw Loreto lead by eight points at half-time. Up to then, it had been a high-scoring contest and the game was still in the balance. However, the hot conditions had an effect after the break and the tempo and the scoring rates of both teams dropped considerably. Colaíste appeared to tire more than Loreto in the last 10 minutes when some late goals were scored which gave the score line somewhat of a lop-sided look. Both teams had several very talented individuals on show and some nice football was played. Well done to both sides and their mentors and congratulations to Loreto on their win.
Senior “D”
St Aloysius College Carrigtwohill 6-09 Beara 6-06
St Aloysius College Carrigtwohill won the “D” Cork Senior Colleges title in a twelve goal thriller when they defeated Beara in the final played at a beautifully prepared Dunmanway venue on Thursday May 15th. The game took place in sweltering conditions as good as any summer’s day with both sides serving up an hour of superb high class football. Beara looked the stronger in the first period and led at the interval by 4 points. ST ALS made a few switches at half time and brought in some very experienced players and this seemed to turn the tide and they scored two goals just after the break to give them the lead. For the next twenty minutes we were treated to top class end to end football but the fitness of the East Cork girls helped them to get over the line .
Final score St Als Carrigtwohill 6-09 Beara 6-06
Congratulations and well done to all members of the panel and team management.
