Junior Ladies
Mon 21st April Ladies Football County Junior League

Aghada 5-10 Michelstown 3-3

Aghada maintained their 100% league record with an impressive performance in a blustery Rostellan on Bank Holiday Monday
The foundation for the win was built from the back line who continue to improve every game. Cassie Tynan, Laura Birchill, Jennifer Lewis, and Elaine Terry all covered for each other and defended the goal through out the game. Sinead McCarthy anchored the half back line and linked up with Aishling and Elaine to keep Aghada moving forward. Roisin Phelan was her usual impressive self and mixed up her game well with Hannah Rose. Emma Farmer made her 2014 debut and showed her class form the start, with some excellent point scoring, goals and general interplay. Niamh Savage scored a peach from the 20, and the pick of the points was scored by Lisa Ring from wide on the right. Hannah Rose and Roisin both converted from play and kept the scoreboard ticking over. Evergreen Kerry O Neill is getting stronger and stronger with every week and is forming a great partnership with the rest of the inside line. Katie’s high fielding and all round game was excellent.
The girls in green are now in the semi final no date has been fixed for this match.Aghada Panel

U -16  Ladies

The U-16 ladies had a fine win on Thursday night when they defeated Mayfield in a good game played in Rostellan .Due to other commitments Aghada were short a few of their regulars so a number of younger players stepped into the breach and made their début at this grade acquitting themselves very well in this game.  They also defeated Lisgoold on Monday evening in Rostellan.                                                                                                                          Having lost their opening two games to Bride Rovers and Fermoy  but winning against Inch, Mayfield and Lisgoold they are still in with a shout of qualifying for the knock out stages of the league if they can finish strongly. They are scheduled to play Erin’s Own on Thursday evening May 1st in Rostellan at 7pm and that will only leave Glanmire to play after that. This grade will take a break until after the exams shortly with the championship not scheduled until August.

U-14 Girls

Aghada U-14  Girls play out thrilling draw with Glanmire (Match Report)

Aghada 2-06 Glanmire 2-06

The U-14’s made the journey today to Buck Leary’s Cross to take on Glanmire in the League and no one could have predicted the way this game went. It has to be said at the start that this was ladies football at its best both teams going toe to toe for the full hour and nothing separating them after a pulsating hour of football in very testing conditions for both teams.

Glanmire were first on the scoreboard with a well taken point but the Aghada girls were quick to reply with a well taken goal from Keva O’Keeffe after great work out the field from Sarah Leahy and Bridget Wall. Again Glanmire replied with another point to leave the minimum between the sides. Lauren McAllister replied with a point for the seaside girls to leave the score at the end of the first quarter Aghada 1-1 Glanmire 0-2 The game was being played at a fast pace and there was no time to draw your breath as the ball moved from one end of the field to the other. Lauren Curley, Sarah Walsh and Katie O’Farrell were having a tremendous game in the half back line with Amy Hickman, Clare Walsh and Kate Stafford ably assisting them in the full back line. The next score of the game was to come from the boot of Lauren McAllister after great work by Lauren Linehan, Megan Sweeney and Eva Rose Boylan.  Again Glanmire replied with another point before Aryn Quinn was unlucky not to have goal-ed but got a point instead but again Glanmire rallied and got the last score of the half to leave the halftime score Aghada 1-3 Glanmire 0-4.

The second half started where the first left off with Glanmire getting the first score of the half with a point to leave the minimum between the sides. It was now up to the seaside girls to reply and replied they did. A tremendous save by Michelle Stafford at one end led to Aghada working the ball up the field and rattling the back of the Glanmire net with a superb goal by Lauren McAllister. This was quickly followed up by a point from the boot of Sarah Leahy and another from Lauren McAllister to put us six clear but we knew there would be another kick in Glanmire and there sure was. They hit 1-1 in the space of two minutes to bring the margin down to two with seven minutes to play a lead no one likes. Ally Rose, Mary Leahy, Adelina Corigliano and Sinead Condon were now starting to get going and it was Sinead Condon who put us three up again with a monster point with three minutes to go. The question on everyone’s minds was would we hold out but with tiring legs Glanmire struck a goal of there own to level up the match with time almost up but there was one more chance for Aghada in the dying moments but it came to no avail and the game ended in a draw after a pulsating hours football. Hugh credit must be given to both teams who played in very testing conditions and served up a great hour’s entertainment. Well done all and a special word of thanks to referee Gavin O’Brien who also contributed to this great game.

 Inter County

Senior Ladies

Well done to Roisín Phelan and Emma Farmer who were both outstanding with the Cork Senior Ladies in their win against near neighbors Kerry on Sunday last. Emma was the ace penalty taker as she slotted home two great goals from the spot and finished the top scorer with 2-01. Cork have now qualified for the National league Final which will take place in Parnell Park v Dublin on May 10th

Cork U 14

Best of luck to Sarah Leahy and Aileen McGrath who are both on the Cork U 14 Ladies Football team that will take on Kerry in the Munster final on Saturday next May 3rd in Castletownroche.  Cork had a big victory the last time these two sides met but it could be a much different affair this time. The U 14 Game is timed for 3 pm and this is preceded by the Munster Minor final between Cork and Tipperary at 1 pm

Féile County Finals

Best wishes to the Aghada U-14 team when they play in the County Féile Finals on Sunday next
