St. Colmans Ladies’ Football
St. Colmans 5-9 Cobh 3-3 (U/14 League)
Last Sunday March16 our under 14 girls continued on their winning start to the season with a great performance against Cobh in Cobh. It was a great team effort all thru the game and very hard to pick out a lady of the match award such was the great support play from all. With the first ten minutes being very messy by both sides the game kicked into life with a Cobh goal, quickly followed by a point for Colmans from Sinead Roche who was to share the scoring duties with Hannah Belton in the first half, leaving us winning by a point at half time 2-3 to 2-2.As the second half started St Colmans got off to a great start with 2 great scores that came from the ball being worked up the field right from the back line where Sile Ryan was bossing any one that tried to take her on. Cobh hit back with 1-1 of their own to draw the game level .It was from this moment on that the Colmans girls got together and starting playing for one another, Mary Cowhig playing like a tiger and would not give up any ball easily and with Tara Daly. Jenny O’ Sullivan and Katie Parker starting to win their battles, the scores started to come for Colmans Points from Anita Hurley and Andre Mullane who had a great first half in goals gave us a 2 point lead and then we saw Hannah Belton make two fiercely determined runs from midfield and kick both balls to the back of the net. Any Cobh attack that was happening was being broken up by Ciara Mellerick, Tara Roche and Daisy Byrne. While all this was happening I myself was watching the battle between the Cobh midfielder and Ciere Graham. In fairness to Ciere she gave an outstanding display in stopping the Cobh playmaker from doing anything useful. With 10 minutes remaining we were to see Sinead Roche score another 3 or 4 points one of which many a senior footballer would be proud of.
