Match Reports

U16 were the first team to start us into the 2014 session, who travelled to Whitechurch for their first outing in the East Cork Football League against Rockban on Sun 09th Feb. The game was played in difficult, cold, conditions with Midleton winning out on a scoreline of 10:07 to 5:04.
Both teams displayed an attractive style of attacking football with Midleton doing most of the running in the first half, and playing with the wind proved to be a huge advantage especially during the driving sleet shower 5 mins before half time when Midleton rattled in 4 goals. Against the wind in the second half Rockban came on strong and to their credit played excellent football. At one stage they had the margin down to 4 points but Midleton finished strong and ran out deserved winners. Many thanks to the Rockban club for providing us with hot soup to warm us up after the game. Team: Kate Mary Cullinane, Kari McEvoy, Deirdre Corcoran, Dionne Carroll, Charlie Moore, Molly Beausang, Tara O Keeffe, Holly Kane, Aimee Roche, Roisin O Callaghan, Sarah Kelly, Chloe Sigerson, and Lisa Ahern.

The second outing played in the Midleton Community school pitch against Fermoy on 23rd Feb proved to be a tougher assignment. Midleton loosing on this occasion on a scoreline of 6-4 to 4-6

Midleton started at a blistering pace with a goal inside 30secs. However Fermoy from the kickout came back down the field to get their first goal. The game continued in this vane for the first half with Midleton going in with a lead of 5 points. Fermoy aided by the wind in second half gained momentum and etched in front mid-way through the half. Midleton fought gamely but the underfoot conditions took their toll and in the last 10 mins, Fermoy pulled into a 4 point lead. Substitutes on the day proved to be the difference. Fermoy were able to introduce fresh legs throughout the match when they were most needed. Midleton didn’t have that luxury as we only had the playing 14 available to us. For the last five mins we were camped on the Fermoy backline and the girls gave it their all. We did manage to bring the difference back to one score, a goal. But it was Fermoy with the last attack of the match securing a great taken point bringing the margin back to 4 points and ensuring them the league points. But a great team performance that can be built on for the next game which will be in the second weekend in March.
