Aghada U-16 Girls Put Icing on the Cake for Aghada Ladies’ Football Club

U-16 Ladies’ Football East Cork “A” Championship Final

Aghada 4-08 Fermoy 3-07

Aghada Ladies’ Football Club completed a great year when their U-16 girls were crowned U-16 “A” East Cork Ladies’ Champions for 2013 following a four point victory over Fermoy in the final which was played in a sunny but cold Rostellan venue on Saturday Dec 7th. This was a superb game with end to end high class football played at a frantic pace and all the ingredients that make ladies’ football such a great game.
Aghada got a dream start and had the ball in the Fermoy net twice is as many minutes from Amanda Bennett and Julie Moynihan and a great point from Hannah Looney before Fermoy opened their account in the sixth minute. Both sides played some superb football and exchanged goals with Amanda Bennett and Abbie Scannell scoring for their teams. Two points from Christine Moran and one each from Clare Coughlan and Hannah Looney saw the sea side girls lead at half time by 3-05 to 1-03.
Fermoy started the second half in very determined manner scoring a goal and two points early on but Amanda Bennett completed her hat trick when she crashed the ball home to the Fermoy net following a super passing movement by the Aghada forwards. Try as Fermoy might they found it very difficult to penetrate the Aghada backs. Fermoy did score a third goal but it was Aghada who grew in confidence with Christine Moran and Hannah Looney slotting over further points to leave them deserving winners on a score line 4-08 to 3-07
Well done to both teams for an outstanding high class game of ladies’ football.
